Full Job Description
Hampton Roads area, Virginia // Exempt, salaried

THE ROLE

You support the planning, coordination, and documentation of MEB's Commercial/Architectural projects: schools, public libraries, recreation and sports centers, civic facilities, and hospitality. You connect the project plans and contract requirements to what is happening in the field.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

  • Submittals and RFIs. Manage submittals, RFIs, and drawing updates, and drive responses to closure.
  • Project records. Maintain meeting documentation and project records.
  • Material tracking. Track materials from approval through delivery, including long-lead items.
  • The coordination chain. Work with the Project Manager, Superintendent, architects, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve questions and track commitments. On our design-build projects the design team is ours rather than a third party, so questions route to them directly.
  • Current information. Make sure the field team has current drawings and approved materials.
  • Scheduling and procurement support. Support scheduling and procurement.
  • Change management and quality. Support change management and quality control.
  • Closeout. Support project closeout, and the other project needs that come with a live job.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 2+ years in construction project engineering, or a construction management or engineering degree plus internship experience
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and shop drawings
  • Experience running a submittal and RFI process with an architect and consultant team, or the organizational discipline to learn it quickly
  • Public or institutional project exposure preferred: K-12, municipal, civic, or recreation
  • Design-build exposure is a plus, not a requirement. What matters is that you can keep a submittal and RFI process moving whether the designer sits on our team or across the table
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office. Primavera P6 and Viewpoint exposure a plus
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or building construction preferred, or equivalent experience
  • OSHA 30 preferred. Valid driver's license

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Assignment varies by project. You may be based in an office, embedded at a jobsite, or splitting time between the two
  • Walk active jobsites over uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and work around heavy equipment in outdoor conditions; required PPE
  • Extended computer work. Occasionally lift and carry up to 25 lbs

COMPENSATION

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $72,000 to $100,000 per year. This is the range we expect to pay someone starting in this position. Where an offer lands within it depends on the experience you bring, the certifications and technical skills that apply to this work, the scope you have carried before, and what we pay people already doing equivalent work here. The range covers base pay. It is a starting range, not a ceiling. People move up through it and past it as they grow with us.
