The Opportunity As a Project Engineer role will report to the Senior Director, Engineering you will provide engineering leadership on behind the meter battery energy storage and distributed energy projects across North America (including IESO, ISO-NE, NY-ISO, and PJM), taking them from early feasibility through design, interconnection, and construction. You will work with Business Development to make sure what we sell is technically achievable, and with consultants, contractors, and utilities to make sure it gets built right. This is not a support role: you will be expected to make sound technical calls, improve on our engineering practices, and help grow Peak Power's asset portfolio.
Engineering & Technical Support- Develop and maintain engineering standards, design criteria, technical specifications, and design-review procedures.
- Prepare and review electrical designs, calculations, drawings, equipment selections, technical studies, and engineering deliverables for quality, safety, constructibility, and compliance.
- Identify technical risks, design gaps, and interface requirements; recommend practical mitigation measures and support timely resolution.
- Respond to technical questions from internal teams, customers, consultants, contractors, vendors, utilities, and authorities having jurisdiction.
Project Development & Customer Support- Support customers from site visits and feasibility through technical due diligence, turning their needs into practical solutions that balance safety, cost, schedule, and constructibility
- Enable the Business Development team by clearly communicating technical concepts and ensuring that proposed solutions and commercial commitments are technically achievable.
- Develop conceptual designs, scopes, assumptions, equipment requirements, and cost estimates to support proposals and investment decisions.
- Prepare and deliver clear technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications for internal and external stakeholders.
Project Execution & Coordination- Define scopes of work and technical requirements for engineering consultants, subcontractors, equipment suppliers, and construction partners.
- Coordinate engineering activities and interfaces across disciplines to support project schedules, critical paths, procurement milestones, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Review consultants, contractors, and vendor submissions; monitor technical progress, deliverables, risks, and action items through closure.
- Support permitting, utility interconnection, code compliance, equipment procurement, construction issue resolution, and commissioning activities as required.
- Maintain organized project records and provide transparent, concise reporting on engineering status, decisions, risks, and upcoming milestones.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement- Work effectively across Engineering, Project Management, Business Development, Operations, Finance, Legal, and other functions requiring technical input and coordinated execution.
- Provide technical direction and guidance to project team members while promoting accountability, collaboration, and timely decision making.
- Evaluate existing methods, tools, and workflows; implement improvements that increase engineering quality, efficiency, transparency, and scalability.
The Experience & Education- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation, eligibility for registration, or Engineer-in-Training status is preferred, as appropriate to the candidate's experience level.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical power systems, renewable energy, battery energy storage, distributed energy resources, industrial facilities, utilities, or related infrastructure projects.
- Working knowledge of electrical design, single-line diagrams, equipment specifications, protection and control, grounding, metering, power systems studies, and utility interconnection requirements.
- Familiarity with applicable electrical, building, fire-safety, and interconnection codes and standards in Canada and/or the United States is an asset.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and project-management software; experience with electrical design or power-system analysis tools is an asset.

The base salary range for this role is $115,000 - 135,000 which reflects differences in experience, skills, and qualifications that candidates may bring to the position.
