You are excited to lead high-integrity custom projects, such as specialized glovebox containment systems-through shop integration, testing and delivery.
A Day in theLife of a Project EngineerThe Project Engineer is part of the team leading the execution, technical design review, fabrication, and project management of custom glovebox assemblies and integrated systems. Acting as the primary bridge between design engineering, shop production, and project execution, you will oversee project schedules, budgets, material procurement, and fabrication workflows.
- Shop Floor Integration & Support: Build work packages for production, collaborate daily with shop craft personnel (welders, fabricators, assemblers), and resolve hands-on manufacturing or fit-up issues.
- Design & Mechanical Engineering: Review and support 2D/3D CAD models (SolidWorks/AutoCAD), structural/piping layouts, and work packages
- Project Management & Schedule Control: Develop project timelines, monitor milestones, manage project risks, track fabrication hours, and allocate resources to keep projects on schedule and within budget.
- Supply Chain & Vendor Coordination: Coordinate with vendors to specify, quote, and procure materials, component parts, and specialized glovebox hardware to support active fabrication projects.
- Testing & Quality Assurance: Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), leak testing, and system commissioning. Ensure all builds comply with customer specifications, QA programs, and industry safety standards.
Requirementsand Preferred Qualifications- Education: Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline
- Experience: 3+ years of experience in project engineering, mechanical design, project management, or hands-on custom equipment fabrication
- Fabrication Acumen: Direct experience or high comfort level working in a fabrication, shop, or manufacturing environment (stainless steel, structural weldments, piping/tubing systems)
- Project Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage timelines, perform basic engineering/cost evaluations, track project budgets, and adapt through scope changes
