Salary: $75,048 - $98,163

Position Summary: The Program Associate I - Router & Special Projects reports to the Senior Executive Director, Division of Student Transportation and is responsible for the planning, coordination, and management of student transportation routes and special transportation projects throughout the District. This position oversees the development and maintenance of yellow bus and small vehicle routes, monitors vendor performance and on-time service, coordinates transportation for special events, and collaborates with schools, transportation providers, the Office of Exceptional Student Education, The Office of Homeless and Foster Care, and external partners to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable transportation services for students. The Program Associate I utilizes Versatrans routing software and operational data to optimize transportation services, address stakeholder concerns, and support district-wide transportation initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university; or a minimum of five (5) years of school district transportation experience; or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education and school district transportation experience.
- Experience utilizing Versatrans routing software or a comparable student transportation routing and scheduling system.
- Project management experience preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to communicate sensitively with parents.
- Computer experience - Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize and respond quickly to competing demands.
- Strong presentation skills with the ability to deliver technical assistance in a form understood by stakeholders.
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to travel frequently within the city of Detroit
Essential Functions Develop and maintain yellow school bus routes, van routes, and small vehicle routes. Communicate route changes to vendors. Monitor on time arrival performance of vendors. Verifies accuracy of driver's route times and stop times on the actual routes are correct. Verification may be performed through physical audits. Demonstrates and promotes a safe environment at all times. Coordinate special events involving transportation. Meets with school officials as needed to keep routes current and accurate. Work collaboratively with the Detroit Department of Transportation leadership. Coordinate scheduling and distribution of all district yellow bus routes and small vehicles. Assist schools and departments with transportation items and concerns. Participate in district committees involving the use of transportation services. Work closely with the Office of Exceptional Student Education. Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned by the Senior Executive Director, Division of Student Transportation.
