Full Job Description
Position Summary

Hollingsworth Pack has an immediate opening for a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) to serve as the engineer in responsible charge for our Inspections & Testing team. This individual is the technical authority for the team's inspection and certification work - setting the standards the work is performed to, supervising the inspectors who perform it, and sealing the deliverables that go out the door.

We are open to both full-time and part-time arrangements and will tailor the role to the right candidate. Because responsible charge requires meaningful supervisory involvement, this individual must be able to physically visit our active and prior jobsites throughout Central Texas on a regular basis. Candidates may reside anywhere within reasonable reach of that area.

Key Responsibilities

The core of this role is exercising responsible charge over our inspection and certification work, including:
  • Foundation Repair Project Certifications - supervising, reviewing, and sealing certification documentation.
  • Below-Slab Plumbing Tunnel Reviews - evaluating the structural conditions and components associated with plumbing tunnel work.
  • Structural Assessments - directing and reviewing structural assessment reports for accuracy, completeness, and code compliance.

Additional responsibilities include:
  • Establish and maintain the technical criteria, inspection procedures, and report standards the field team works to.
  • Train, direct, and evaluate inspectors, technicians, and junior engineering staff.
  • Personally observe a representative portion of field work at active projects in the San Antonio and Austin areas.
  • Provide P.E. review and seal on inspection reports, certifications, and related deliverables, with full authority to reject deliverables, require re-inspection, or decline to seal.
  • Ensure quality control, accuracy, and code compliance across all inspection and testing documentation.
  • Support the growth of the San Antonio office through strong client relationships and dependable service.
  • Provide occasional expert testimony, deposition support, or litigation-related consultation on prior projects.

Required Qualifications
  • Active Texas Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or a related field) from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Willingness and ability to exercise independent professional judgment and maintain responsible charge over work performed by the field team.
  • Working knowledge of the IBC and IRC, ACI, and related codes and standards.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to travel to and access active construction sites throughout Central Texas.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and close attention to detail.

We do not require a minimum number of years of experience. A newly licensed P.E. who is willing to learn this work and take genuine ownership of it will be given the training and support to do so.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in residential foundation evaluation, forensic engineering, or construction inspection.
  • Familiarity with the Texas Section ASCE Guidelines for the Evaluation and Repair of Residential Foundations.
  • Working knowledge of PTI DC10.5 (post-tensioned slab-on-ground), ACI 318, and ACI 332.
  • Understanding of expansive clay soils and soil-structure interaction as they affect Central Texas foundations.
  • Familiarity with common repair methods - pressed pilings, drilled piers, and helical piers.
  • Experience with floor elevation survey methods and the interpretation of elevation data.
  • Prior experience leading a structural, forensic, or inspection team.

Physical Requirements

This role involves regular field work. With or without reasonable accommodation, the position requires the ability to:
  • Walk active construction sites with uneven or unstable footing.
  • Work outdoors in Central Texas summer heat and in unconditioned interior spaces.
  • Lift and carry field equipment of approximately 25 pounds.

What We Offer
  • Compensation of $50-$70 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Full-time or part-time employment, with flexible hours to fit the right candidate.
  • Firm-provided professional liability (E&O) coverage. You are backed by the firm, not exposed on your own.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance [full-time employees].
  • Paid time off and holidays [full-time employees].
  • Professional development, licensure fees, and continuing-education support.
  • Mileage and travel reimbursement for site visits.
