Full Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Production Superintendent for the production process side in our new facility in Edmonton, Alberta. The Production Superintendent will report to the Production Manager and has overall responsibility and accountability for the safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective day-to-day operation of the ASU, HPU, CO2 Sequestration, PSA, and Hydrogen Liquefaction units. As the technical subject matter expert, they are expected to guide, train, and lead the facility operations team members, support maintenance planning and execution, and liaise with technical, reliability, EH&S, and turnaround teams. The successful candidate will serve as the site authority for operational excellence, process safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Ensure adherence to Air Products occupational and process safety standards and established operating procedures.
  • Lead daily operations of the ASU, HPU, CO2, PSA, and Hydrogen Liquefaction units.
  • Train, assess, coach, and mentor supervisors and production technicians.
  • Develop site talent through coaching, training, qualification, and succession planning.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and employee involvement.
  • Support development of and compliance with the annual Production Fixed Cost Budget.
  • Coordinate scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with Preventive Maintenance and Mechanical Integrity programs.
  • Manage the site Basic Safety Process and Process Safety Management programs.
  • Participate in HAZOP, LOPA, MOC, and PSSR activities.
  • Lead incident investigations, RCA efforts, and corrective-action implementation.
  • Act as a key participant during emergency response events and drills.
  • Support turnaround and shutdown planning and execution.
  • Develop and revise production procedures, operating manuals, and training materials.
  • Coordinate with engineering and maintenance teams on capital and maintenance

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • Power Engineering certificate and related technical diploma and experience leading operations in large industrial facilities or a Bachelor of Engineering in a relevant discipline
  • 20+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Significant experience leading multi-shift operations teams in high-hazard process industries.
  • Experience with greenfield or brownfield commissioning and startup activities.
  • Experience operating ATR, Gasification, SMR, syngas processing, hydrogen production, or related technologies preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of permit to work, mechanical integrity, RCA, HAZOP/LOPA, MOC, PSSR, and emergency response programs.
  • Proven ability to lead direct reports and influence stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills and strong business acumen.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with SAP/CMMS systems.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps.
  • Must be able to wear appropriate PPE and physically perform all tasks in the field.
  • Must be comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
  • Must be capable of performing field inspections and operating in industrial environments.

This role is designated as a safetysensitive position and requires successful completion of a preemployment drug and alcohol test and may be subject to ongoing testing in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
