Full Job Description
Product Validation Engineer
Overall Function:
Reporting to the Electronics Development Manager, the Product Validation Engineer is responsible for testing, evaluating and verifying Meyer Sound's pre-production hardware, embedded software and systems to ensure they meet performance, reliability and design requirements before volume production and market release. The Product Validation Engineer works closely with acoustical, electrical, mechanical, firmware and manufacturing engineers; their findings decide whether a design is ready to advance, and their test data becomes the evidence behind Meyer Sound's specifications. The Product Validation Engineer is a full-time, exempt position, earning $148K - 188K annually.
Essential Responsibilities:
Design and execute structured test plans, stress tests and characterization procedures for new products
Perform electrical and functional tests, including power handling, amplifier performance, efficiency, noise measurement and protection behavior
Perform environmental and reliability tests, including thermal cycling, humidity, vibration, drop, ingress (IP) and accelerated life testing (HALT/HASS)
Validate firmware and control software, including network audio and control features
Identify functional failures, trace hardware, firmware and software bugs, and work with R&D and design teams to fix them and confirm fixes through re-test
Write scripts (e.g., Python) to automate test workflows, analyze large performance datasets and track quality metrics
Use AI tools to accelerate test development, automate test data analysis and draft test reports
Work with manufacturing, quality assurance and suppliers to move validated designs smoothly into volume production, including end-of-line test transfer
Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications
Assist with activities such as department maintenance, archiving project information, architectural drawing conversion, refining database operating procedures and features, gathering and summarizing information, technical training, and product application testing
Assist on various special projects as needed and other tasks as assigned
Required Skills & Experience:
BS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in product validation, design verification or test engineering for electronic or electromechanical products
Hands-on experience with lab instruments: oscilloscopes, audio analyzers, signal generators, power analyzers, DMMs and data acquisition systems
Working knowledge of analog and digital circuits, power electronics and basic acoustics
Experience writing test plans, procedures and reports to a documented process
Scripting skills for test automation and data analysis (Python, MATLAB or LabVIEW)
Methodical approach to troubleshooting and root-cause analysis (e.g., 8D, fishbone, 5 Whys)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills across engineering disciplines
Experience in professional audio, loudspeaker or amplifier development preferred
Familiarity with acoustic measurement tools and methods (e.g., Audio Precision) preferred
Knowledge of AES and IEC loudspeaker standards (e.g., AES2, IEC 60268-5) preferred
Experience with networked audio and control protocols (AVB/Milan, Dante, AES67) preferred
Background in reliability engineering (DFMEA, Weibull analysis, MTBF prediction) preferred
An ear for sound and an interest in live sound, cinema or installed audio preferred
