DESCRIPTION

Summary:

This role develops and recommends measures to evaluate product safety, reduce or eliminate product hazards, and ensure compliance with safety codes worldwide. Serves as the corporate authority on all matters related to Product Safety and Code Compliance.

Principal Accountabilities:
  • Ensures compliance with product safety standards in all phases of product design, development, production, and distribution.
  • Investigates and documents requirements to achieve various equipment certifications such as UL and CE, and advises product development teams to ensure design compliance.
  • Reviews product specifications, RFQs, and purchase orders for safety and code compliance; Has the ability to place orders on hold until all conditions are met, and facilitates any special certification requirements on customer orders.
  • Evaluates potential hazards or damage which could result from misuse of products and applies engineering principles and product standards to improve safety and procedures.
  • Investigates causes of accidents and injuries resulting from product usage, and recommends solutions.
  • Participates in preparation of product usage and precautionary label instructions, and approves final format.
  • Establishes and maintains shipping documents attesting to product safety and code compliance.
  • Communicates with relevant safety and code organizations worldwide to maintain knowledge of current and proposed safety code standards as they affect Universal's products.
  • Guides procurement team to assure continued compliance by suppliers with required standards.
  • Advises Engineering, Quality and Human Resources management on all matters relating to product safety and code compliance.
  • Dedicated support as a Quality Engineer for the Solar Manufacturing Cell providing management of all quality related items including inbound material, process steps, FA/CAPA, FGI QC Checklist
  • Assignment as Quality Acceptance Criteria (QAC) QE for a dedicated product line in the Conklin facility


Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or relevant technical discipline,
  • 2-4 years of experience in industrial product safety.
  • Ability to understand and interpret detailed documents and drawings.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • An Associate Safety Professional certification or equivalent.


Responsibility for Quality Procedures or Direct Product Quality:
  • Adheres to Universal Quality System policies and procedures and uses Total Cycle Time principles and standard problem solving tools to continuously improve work processes.


Physical Demands:
  • Frequently required to access and manipulate various objects, tools, or controls.
  • Ability to use a computer on a frequent basis.
  • May have to remain stationary for extended periods and be mobile enough to navigate through work areas.
  • Requires the ability to communicate clearly in giving presentations and with fellow colleagues.


Target Annual Base Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 + Robust Benefits
