Position SummaryAMF Bakery Systems is seeking a Product Engineer - Mechanical to develop and support assigned equipment products throughout their lifecycle. This role combines hands-on mechanical engineering with technical ownership of new product development, standard product configurations, and custom product and project execution.
The Product Engineer develops practical, manufacturable designs and maintains the engineering information needed to quote, build, install, and service those products. Working with Product Management, Applications Engineering, Electrical and Controls Engineering, Manufacturing, and Service, this engineer translates customer needs and field experience into reliable products and repeatable solutions.
New Product Development- Work with Product Management and Applications Engineering to define product requirements, performance targets, and development priorities based on customer needs.
- Develop mechanical concepts and detailed designs, including calculations, component sizing and selection, pneumatic systems, and equipment layouts.
- Coordinate with Electrical and Controls Engineering to integrate mechanical designs with automation and machine controls.
- Plan and support prototype builds, testing, and design reviews; resolve issues and verify performance, safety, and serviceability before release.
- Support the transition from development to standard production with released drawings, bills of materials, technical documentation, and production readiness checklists.
Standard Product Configurations- Create and maintain standard product configurations, approved options, and configuration rules, including application limits and interfaces.
- Maintain accurate 3D models, drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, and revision records for standard products and options.
- Develop reusable assemblies and common components to simplify configuration, reduce unnecessary variation, and improve manufacturing consistency.
- Work with Applications Engineering and Sales to select suitable configurations and clearly identify when customer requirements need custom engineering.
- Manage engineering changes and component obsolescence; keep product documentation, manuals, recommended spare parts lists, and checkout requirements current.
Custom Product and Project Execution- Review customer requirements and project scope; assess feasibility, identify design risks, and support custom quotations and engineering estimates.
- Adapt standard products or develop custom mechanical solutions to meet approved project requirements while reusing proven designs where practical.
- Complete and release project drawings, layouts, BOMs, and specifications to support purchasing, fabrication, assembly, and delivery schedules.
- Resolve engineering questions during manufacturing and provide remote or on-site support for installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
- Close engineering punch list items and document lessons learned; incorporate validated improvements and reusable custom solutions into standard products.
Product Improvement and Technical Support- Serve as the mechanical technical resource for assigned products, supporting Sales, Applications Engineering, Manufacturing, and Service.
- Use customer feedback, field issues, and manufacturing and installation costs to recommend improvements in performance, reliability, cost, and ease of maintenance.
