Full Job Description
Job Requisition: Product Engineer, AI

Company: Roper Technologies

Department: Engineering / AI & Machine Learning

Employment Type: Full-Time

Levels Hiring: Senior / Principal-Staff (leveling based on experience)

Job Summary

Roper Technologies is seeking a Product Engineer to define and build AI products across its portfolio of market-leading vertical software businesses. This is a builder role combining technical depth with product judgment. You will sit close enough to customers to see where AI creates value, and be capable enough to build it yourself.

Roper's advantage in AI comes from owning the proprietary data, domain context, and mission-critical workflows of the industries our businesses serve. This role converts that advantage into shipped product: shaping product concepts and roadmaps with portfolio company leadership, prototyping to establish feasibility, and building central technology that creates leverage across many businesses at once.

You will move between businesses in insurance, healthcare, energy, education, and other verticals, each with deep proprietary data driving mission-critical processes for customers. We are looking for people who have shipped real AI products rather than demos, and who have strong opinions about what good looks like.

There is no single path into this role. Strong candidates come from engineering, product, and research backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Thesis Development

  • Partner with portfolio company leadership to shape AI product concepts, roadmaps, and product theses

  • Learn new business domains quickly and identify where AI meaningfully adds customer value

  • Develop a defensible point of view on what to build, what not to build, and why now

  • Pressure-test opportunities against feasibility, differentiation, and willingness to pay

  • Engage directly with customers to ground product decisions in real workflows

Prototyping & Experimentation

  • Build working prototypes and run experiments to establish feasibility

  • Design evaluations that separate a compelling demo from a shippable product

  • Move fast from concept to functioning system, using AI-assisted development to compress the build cycle

  • Kill ideas when the evidence does not support them

Central Technology & Portfolio Leverage

  • Develop shared technology and products that create leverage across many Roper businesses

  • Judge when a capability should be built centrally versus locally, and design accordingly

  • Drive adoption of shared platforms and patterns across portfolio company engineering teams

  • Codify what works into reusable frameworks, reference architectures, and playbooks

Value Creation & Monetization

  • Ship AI products that customers adopt, that can be priced, and that contribute to organic growth

  • Define and track the metrics that demonstrate value: adoption, retention, expansion, and customer impact

  • Close the loop from production usage back into the product roadmap

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a technical field: computer science, engineering, mathematics, or physics

  • Deep technical grounding in AI and machine learning, including modern LLM-based and agentic systems

  • Prior experience shipping AI products at scale in production

  • Strong product sense and taste, with real opinions about what makes software good to use

  • Strong understanding of software architecture and design patterns

  • Demonstrated ability to prototype a working solution quickly and independently

  • Ability to learn an unfamiliar business domain rapidly and form a clear view on what to build

  • Willingness to work directly with customers and portfolio company teams

  • Strong ownership mindset, resilience to failed experiments, and high internal drive

  • Ability to operate independently in an ambiguous environment

Preferred

  • Vertical SaaS or enterprise software experience in regulated or operationally complex industries

  • Fluency with agent frameworks, orchestration patterns, retrieval systems, and evaluation methodology

  • Full-stack capability, from model behavior through to the customer-facing interface

  • Experience working across multiple business units or as part of a central strike team

Leveling & Growth

Level

Scope

Senior Product Engineer

Owns a product area end to end within one or two portfolio companies, from concept through shipped, monetized capability.

Principal / Staff Product Engineer

Sets product direction across multiple businesses, builds shared central technology, and drives adoption across the portfolio.

Level and compensation will be determined based on experience and demonstrated expertise.

What We Value

  • Great product judgment with the ability to build

  • Strong desire for empirical evidence (e.g., telemetry and evaluations) to test product hypotheses

  • Curiosity about unfamiliar domains and the discipline to get to depth quickly
