About the position

We are on a journey of continuous growth - now looking for our next star - a passionate Product Designer, Mechatronics. This position reports to Chief Engineer and will work in Vancouver, BC.

Vancouver:

Dometic Marine's headquarters are in Vancouver, British Columbia in Canada. The facility develops and manufactures hydraulic, electronic, and combustion-based products.

As Product Designer, Mechatronics of the Vancouver team, you will be working in cross-functional teams to develop electromechanical products that lead the marine industry. You will be involved in the complete development cycle from concept to production. You will help to design safe, reliable, sustainable, and innovative products such as steer by wire systems, vessel control systems, or power control systems that can make boating easier and safer for boaters around the world.

General Responsibilities

  • Contribute across the full development cycle, from requirements definition through design, implementation, validation, documentation, and ongoing production support.
  • Take ownership of subsystem design decisions, including concept development, evaluation of design alternatives (trade studies), risk identification, and validation, with scope increasing with experience.
  • Design electromechanical components and assemblies, including concept generation, 3D modeling, material selection, stress analysis, electromagnetic analysis, and system modeling.
  • Hands-on prototyping, testing, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of electromechanical systems.
  • Support test execution and failure investigations, including instrument setup and data interpretation.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to develop engineering requirements and specifications.
  • Support new product launches by working with cross-functional teams, including design engineering, product management, test engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality engineering, marketing, and production.
  • Work closely with senior engineers to develop technical depth and rapidly build product knowledge.
  • Design products and components using tools and methods such as FEA, DFMEA, VAVE, and DFMA.
  • Design for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability, with awareness of cost and production constraints.
  • Contribute to "make versus buy" decisions for components and/or assemblies, and work with suppliers on production readiness.
  • Prepare design documentation for new products and components such as drawings, engineering specifications and test reports.

Skills & Requirements

The ideal candidate for this role will bring demonstrated success in engineering environment. Additionally, they will have acquired the following qualifications and experiences:

  • University or Institute qualifications in Electro-Mechanical, Mechatronics, Mechanical or Electrical with experience in Mechatronics systems.
  • This role is suited to an engineer who can take ownership of subsystems, with support scaled to experience level.
  • 4+ years of experience in electromechanical product development (or equivalent experience).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Familiarity with 3D CAD / PLM (Creo, Windchill is a plus)
    • Simulation (FEA, EM, system modeling, FEMM) is a plus
    • Controls and modeling (Matlab/Simulink)
    • Electrical/mechatronic systems (motors, batteries, sensors)
    • Familiar with electronic instrumentation/sensors & test equipment.
    • Familiarity with Lithium batteries, battery chargers, battery management devices, inverters, generators, battery switches, and solar panels.

The salary for this position ranges from $92,000 CAD to $110,000 CAD per annum. Actual salary offered will be based on education, experience, skills, and qualifications as they relate to the role.
