Position: Procurement Specialist / Senior Procurement Specialist - API Manufacturing

Salary Range: $75,000-120,000

Location: Coventry, RI (On-site)

Job Overview

Pharmaron is seeking a Procurement Specialist or Senior Procurement Specialist to join our Supply Chain team at our API manufacturing facility in Coventry, Rhode Island.

This position will support the procurement of chemicals, raw materials, laboratory materials, consumables, and other supplies required for pharmaceutical API manufacturing and site operations. The successful candidate will work closely with suppliers and internal manufacturing, supply chain, quality, laboratory, finance, and operations teams to ensure critical materials are available when needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage purchasing activities for chemicals, raw materials, consumables, MRO materials, laboratory supplies, and other materials supporting API manufacturing and site operations.
  • Create and manage purchase requisitions (PRs) and purchase orders (POs), ensuring accuracy and timely processing.
  • Prepare and issue requests for quotation (RFQs), evaluate supplier responses, and support supplier selection and sourcing decisions.
  • Communicate directly with suppliers regarding pricing, availability, order confirmations, delivery schedules, lead times, and material requirements.
  • Proactively identify and address potential material shortages, delivery delays, discrepancies, and other supply risks that could impact manufacturing operations.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to understand material requirements and purchasing priorities based on manufacturing and operational needs.
  • Support supplier negotiations and identify opportunities to improve cost, service, lead times, and supply reliability.
  • Coordinate with Accounts Payable to resolve invoice, purchase order, and receipt discrepancies.
  • Maintain accurate procurement documentation, supplier records, and purchasing data to support GMP compliance and audit readiness.
  • Track procurement activities and supplier performance and contribute to reporting, spend analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support additional site procurement and inventory programs as needed.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Quality, Finance, Laboratory Operations, and other site functions.

What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree with approximately 5-8 years of relevant procurement, purchasing, supply chain, or sourcing experience; Associate's degree with 8-10+ years of relevant experience; or high school diploma/GED with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience purchasing chemicals, raw materials, or manufacturing materials is strongly preferred.
  • Experience within pharmaceutical, API, chemical, specialty chemical, CDMO/CRO, or other regulated manufacturing environments is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly with suppliers, including RFQs, pricing, order management, lead times, and delivery coordination.
  • Strong understanding of purchase requisition and purchase order processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple material requirements and priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including data tracking, formulas, and reporting.
  • Experience working with ERP or procurement systems is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
