Process & Manufacturing Engineer We are looking for a
Process Manufacturing Engineer for our
Westbury, NY facility. In this role you will report to the Engineering & Reliability Manager and work closely with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, Production Planning, and EHS. The Process & Manufacturing Engineer supports manufacturing processes through process optimization, capital project execution, equipment implementation, and technical problem solving. This hybrid role combines process engineering, manufacturing engineering, project engineering, and materials processing, leading process improvement initiatives and providing technical expertise for ceramic processing, spray drying, powder manufacturing, cladding, and sintering technologies. A key responsibility of this position is leading the selection, specification, installation, commissioning, and validation of a new sintering system at the Westbury facility - the first installation of its kind at the site - in close coordination with global engineering teams, equipment suppliers, Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and EHS.
Your Responsibilities:- Monitor and improve manufacturing processes to increase safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability; analyze production data to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Develop process parameters and operating windows for powder manufacturing processes, and support troubleshooting related to spray drying, sintering, powder processing, blending, and thermal spray materials.
- Support day-to-day manufacturing operations by providing technical guidance to production personnel, and collaborate with Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and process stability.
- Lead assigned CAPEX projects from concept through commissioning, including scopes, equipment specifications, budgets, and schedules; coordinate equipment suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders through installation, SAT/FAT activities, and process qualification.
- Lead the technical evaluation and selection of a new sintering system for the Westbury facility, including layout development, utility requirements, installation planning, and commissioning, working with equipment manufacturers to establish operating parameters and acceptance criteria.
- Develop production procedures, maintenance plans, and operator training materials for new equipment, and support process validation and transition to routine manufacturing.
- Provide technical support for ceramic processing, spray drying, cladding materials, powder manufacturing, and related manufacturing technologies; collaborate with Quality to investigate process deviations and customer quality concerns.
- Support engineering documentation including P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment specifications, and work instructions; perform root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
- Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement initiatives, including Kaizen events, driving improvements in OEE, yield, throughput, and process capability.
- Create and maintain standard operating procedures and process documentation across all supported manufacturing lines.
Your Profile:- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Typically 5-8 years of engineering experience within a manufacturing environment, including exposure to capital equipment projects.
- Working knowledge of powder processing, ceramics, spray drying, sintering, cladding, or thermal spray materials preferred.
- Familiarity with project management principles and equipment installation, commissioning, and qualification.
- Experience developing manufacturing procedures and process documentation; ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and equipment documentation.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD or similar drafting software preferred; proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, SAP, and Visio is preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills, with familiarity in statistical process control and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with cross-functional teams, including Operations, Quality, Maintenance, and external vendors.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, balancing daily support with long-term project work.
- Sound judgment in evaluating equipment capability and recommending process improvements.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for project updates, documentation, and cross-functional reporting.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making under time pressure.
