The OpportunityThe Process Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and optimizing maintenance activities for processing plant equipment and associated infrastructure within a mining operation. This role ensures maintenance work is executed safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively to maximize equipment reliability, plant availability, and production performance.
Working closely with operations, maintenance supervisors, reliability engineers, procurement, and warehouse personnel, the Process Maintenance Planner develops detailed work plans, schedules resources, coordinates materials and contractor requirements, and supports preventive and predictive maintenance programs. The role promotes safe work practices, compliance with site standards, and continuous improvement across the processing plant.
Responsibilities- Develop detailed maintenance work plans, job packages, and schedules for planned, preventive, corrective, and shutdown maintenance activities.
- Prioritize maintenance work based on equipment criticality, operational requirements, safety risks, and production impact.
- Coordinate weekly and daily maintenance schedules with operations and maintenance teams to minimize production interruptions.
- Identify resource requirements, including labor, tools, equipment, specialist services, and contractor support.
- Ensure work orders are properly scoped, estimated, planned, and ready for execution.
- Plan maintenance activities for processing plant equipment, including crushers, conveyors, feeders, screens, pumps, flotation equipment, thickeners, mills, slurry systems, and other fixed plant assets, as applicable to the operation.
- Develop job plans that include work instructions, labor estimates, equipment isolation requirements, tooling, spare parts, and technical documentation.
- Review equipment history, maintenance records, inspection findings, and failure reports to identify recurring issues and improve maintenance plans.
- Coordinate planned maintenance activities with production teams to optimize equipment availability and minimize downtime.
- Identify and verify spare parts, consumables, and materials required for scheduled maintenance work.
- Coordinate with procurement, inventory control, and warehouse teams to ensure materials are available before work is scheduled.
- Identify long-lead items, repairable components, and critical spares that may affect maintenance execution.
- Ensure maintenance work packages include accurate material lists, specifications, and equipment documentation.
- Maintain accurate work orders, job plans, equipment records, maintenance schedules, and material requirements in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), such as SAP PM, IBM Maximo, or an equivalent platform.
- Monitor work-order status, backlog, schedule compliance, planned maintenance performance, and work readiness.
- Prepare maintenance planning reports and provide updates on upcoming work, resource requirements, and schedule constraints.
- Ensure completed work orders are closed out with accurate labor, material, failure, and equipment history information.
The above duties and responsibilities represent the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.
Education and Experience- Diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred; equivalent relevant trade qualifications and experience may be considered.
- Formal training or certification in maintenance planning, asset management, reliability, or maintenance management is desirable.
- Working knowledge of maintenance planning and scheduling principles, preventive maintenance systems, and work-order management.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), preferably SAP PM, IBM Maximo, or an equivalent platform.
- Knowledge of mining process plant equipment, maintenance practices, equipment isolation, and site safety requirements.
- 3-5 years of maintenance planning or scheduling experience in a mining, mineral processing, heavy industrial, or fixed plant environment.
- Demonstrated experience planning mechanical maintenance activities for process plant equipment, preferably in a mining or mineral processing operation.
- Experience developing job plans, work packages, labor estimates, material lists, and maintenance schedules.
- Experience coordinating maintenance work with operations, trades personnel, contractors, procurement, and warehouse teams.
- Experience supporting planned shutdowns, major maintenance activities, or equipment overhauls.
- Practical experience using a CMMS to manage work orders, maintenance backlog, equipment history, and preventive maintenance schedules.
- Understanding of maintenance work prioritization, equipment criticality, risk assessment, and production-driven maintenance requirements.
- Experience monitoring maintenance performance indicators, including schedule compliance, backlog, planned versus unplanned work, and equipment availability.
