Full Job Description
The Process Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance to plant operations in support of process improvement, cost reduction, safety enhancement, and efficiency at Mactac's manufacturing facility in Spartanburg, SC. This includes identifying and implementing process changes to improve yields, reduce costs, improve runtime, reduce downtime and improve quality for all products. This Engineer is involved in projects of a complex nature that have considerable impact on plant performance and costs.

Responsibilities include:
  • Identifying, developing, and managing process improvement projects specifically aimed at improving operational efficiencies (waste, productivity, costs), including the ongoing development and training of required methods and procedures.
  • Troubleshooting daily production and process problems, communicating with the Maintenance Manager, Engineering Manager, Production Manager, Supervisors and Operators regarding run problems, investigating root causes and recommending and implementing corrective actions.
  • Working in conjunction with manufacturing and maintenance personnel to ensure consistent operation of equipment to prescribed conditions, once developed, and identifying any or all of the following: set-up and run parameters, maintenance intervals, and material specifications.
  • Developing support, set up, run and change-over documentation and facilitating their training.
  • Writing, performing, analyzing, and reporting on validations to support process standardization.
  • Developing project justifications, ROI analysis and proper project/capital requests consistent with company policy.
  • Taking the lead in managing and implementing certain safety initiatives, and always operating with safety considerations as paramount.
  • Assisting Manufacturing in preparing standard operating conditions with the appropriate input from the machine operators, supervisors and technical personnel.
  • Determining the need and justification for capital projects such as source equipment and components by completing and routing Allocation for capital form.
  • Assisting Sales and Applications Development in the development of customer specifications.
  • Planning, executing, and documenting all major changes to the processing of raw materials used in operation.
  • Accurately updating documentation to reflect current operation procedures.
  • Assisting maintenance in developing PM procedures.
  • Leading projects to implement changes necessary for quality improvement and cost reduction.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required, with a preference for Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
  • Additional education and/or training in Chemistry is preferred.
  • Working experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing or other similar Continuous Improvement methodology and certification strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience with converting film, paper webs, slot die and/or curtain coating technology is preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software.
  • Should possess prior experience working with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems. Prior experience with JD Edwards ERP is beneficial.
  • Excellent judgment and decision-making ability, including the ability to identify problems and pursue risk-balanced solutions.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Requires ability to effectively communicate, both in writing and verbally, with key stakeholders and people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company.
