Position Summary
Provide support to continuously improve manufacturing processes at all facilities. Support and foster business policies and objectives, while insuring a positive work environment.
Responsibilities
This is a Safety-Sensitive position, meaning the employee is directly responsible for his or her own safety or the safety of other people. "Safety-Sensitive" roles include "any job that includes tasks or duties that the employer reasonably believes could affect the safety and health of the employee performing the task or others."
Define optimal process operation including documentation of operating procedures.
Optimize plant operations to improve safety, quality, and productivity while lowering cost. Conduct reviews of process operations to identify opportunities.
Troubleshoot and resolve long-term manufacturing problems that impede quality and cost effectiveness.
Devise and conduct plant trials to establish areas for improvement.
Utilize process simulation software for new process design and troubleshooting
Develop, improve, and implement production/processing methods that positively impact cost, quality, and safety objectives.
Manage capital projects and provide technical support for the specification, design, purchase, installation, and commissioning of new equipment and retrofits.
Assist with the development and administering of training on new and existing equipment and products for manufacturing personnel to ensure product/process consistency.
Participate in Process Hazard Analysis studies, action item follow-up, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
Responsible for ensuring compliance with the Responsible Care Management System® including the establishment of policies and procedures, assigning responsibilities and tracking progress.
Qualifications
Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to achieve process improvements.
Proven skills to design new systems and upgrade existing systems; process unit monitoring and data analysis; unit optimization and troubleshooting operational problems; inspection assistance for reactors, columns, vessel internals, etc.; studying unit capabilities and limitations; improving unit efficiency; and capital projects.
Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
Demonstrated ability to manage projects to completion on time and within budget.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of time in order to fulfill the responsibilities of this position.
Physical ability to reach all work areas in the plant (i.e., climb ladders, negotiate catwalks, handle heights to 50 feet, etc.), to lift, twist, and turn up to 50 lbs. (i.e., open and close large valves, inspect equipment, don emergency equipment, etc.).
Due to safety sensitive nature of job, must pass regular & routine chemical dependency testing.
Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis.
RECOMMENDED:
Advanced course work in engineering, management, or chemistry.
Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EIT).
At least 1 year in a TQM or similar Quality System environment.
At least 1 year in ISO 9001 environment.
Experience in process control, SPC, and instrumentation.
Education Requirements
Degree in Chemical Engineering, B.S. minimum.
