The Opportunity: MissionThis role drives cross-functional technical programs and operating changes that make delivery more predictable, higher quality and faster, without taking ownership away from the teams that deliver; and gives engineering, product and other enterprise leaders an honest, data-driven view of how work actually flows.
About the RoleThe
Principal TPM serves as a senior individual contributor in Engineering, leading complex technical programs and transformation initiatives across multiple value streams, functions, and technology domains. The role looks at how engineering delivers and works with leaders to improve it. The role combines three things: leading large, complex technical programs; measuring delivery performance (including the impact of AI-assisted development); and driving operating changes the evidence calls for. The position exercises independent judgment and influences outcomes without direct people-management responsibility, ownership of engineering commitments, or budget-approval authority. The role succeeds by enabling Engineering to execute with excellence.
What you'll do:- Lead key technical programs
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of complex technical programs and transformation initiatives across multiple value streams, functions, and technology domains; aligning stakeholders on objectives, execution strategy, dependencies, and success measures (for example: AI SDLC transformation).
- Establish program governance, execution frameworks, operating rhythms, escalation paths, and accountability mechanisms that improve delivery predictability, transparency, and outcomes.
- Identify technical and organizational risks, bottlenecks, and dependency trends; challenge assumptions, define and drive program planning, and escalate unresolved issues to appropriate leaders.
- Ensure risk-mitigation and recovery plans exist and are visible; escalate when execution on these plans is at risk.
- Measure and identify delivery performance trends
- With engineering leaders, define and maintain a set of delivery measures; Align on metric definitions, own the development, adoption, analysis, and continuous improvement of engineering and product delivery measurement dashboards, with metrics such as DORA, feature cycle times, throughput, quality, rework, predictability, AI-enabled productivity, delivery health, observability, and operational effectiveness.
- Assess how AI-assisted development and other levers change delivery speed, quality, and rework, and provide suggestions on where it is working and where it is not.
- Translate performance trends and program insights into leadership recommendations: what is constraining delivery, why, suggestions for improvement, who owns the change, and how success will be measured.
- Improve how engineering operates
- Improve engineering operating models, delivery practices, governance, and ways of working by identifying systemic barriers and driving continuous AI-enabled improvement across teams.
- Leverage AI in your own workflow
- Coach and mentor other program managers and delivery leaders and share effective practices
- Align leaders on tradeoffs and decisions
- Serve as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership and mentor teams on operating excellence, influencing execution without direct people-management authority or ownership of engineering commitments.
- Partner with Engineering, Product, Support, Operations, IT, Data and Analytics, Cybersecurity, and Finance to resolve cross-functional issues and support strategic initiatives.
- Communicate program status, risks, tradeoffs, recommendations, and escalations to senior and executive leaders; provide input on resourcing needs, program business cases, and cost-benefit considerations.
Required- 10+ years of experience in technical program management, engineering delivery, product management or a related role leading complex, cross-functional initiatives that delivered measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated understanding and technical depth in modern software delivery practices (for example: Agile, SDLC and PDLC, CI/CD, testing, release, observability, reliability) to challenge leaders and engineers and provide recommendations
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex, cross-functional technical programs and organizational transformation initiatives from planning through execution and delivery with measurable outcomes.
- Demonstrated success managing program risks, dependencies, executive escalations, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, change-management, and continuous improvement skills with experience using data, process, metrics, and reporting to drive program decisions and measure success.
- Clear, candid written and verbal executive communication skills: concise, option-based, and comfortable saying what is off track and raising tradeoffs
- Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive results without direct authority with results you can describe.
- Grit, curiosity, and comfortable challenging the status quo as well as working in an ambiguous environment.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical or related field or equivalent practical experience
- Must be inquisitive and demonstrate openness to innovation including AI to explore better processes and ways to alleviate friction and improve patient and client experiences.
- This is a remote position; however, candidates must be willing and able to travel to and work onsite at client, temporary, or corporate office locations as business needs require.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience evaluating build vs buy and rolling out AI-assisted development tools and measuring their effect
- Experience using AI or automation to run program tracking and reporting
- Experience mentoring other program managers and coaching others
- Experience driving operational excellence, process optimization and standardization, and organizational change across multiple teams.
- Proficient with tools like Aha, ADO or Jira, Databricks or SQL, Claude or Copilo
