Northrop Grumman Space Systems-Missile Defense Integration offers an excellent opportunity for a Principal Software Development Analyst - SW Scrum Master Plnr (26-394) to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. Based in Colorado Springs, CO, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

The C2BMC Planner (PLNR) Product Team is looking for a versatile Scrum Master/Software Engineer who will report to the Product Owner. This role involves providing servant leadership, facilitating Agile ceremonies such as daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives. The person will also help guide the team through Program Increment (PI) planning, feature breakdown, and managing cross-team dependencies. About 30% of the role's time will be dedicated to these facilitation responsibilities, while the remaining 70% will focus on designing, coding, testing, debugging, and maintaining Java applications, CI/CD pipelines, and automation tools within the Planner subsystem.

Essential Functions:

  • The ideal candidate has proven Scrum Master experience (certification preferred), 3-5+ years of Java development in missile defense or high-availability systems, strong technical and interpersonal skills, and familiarity with the Earned Value Management System (EVMS) for government financial tracking is a plus
  • Success is defined by delivering sprint and PI goals on time, maintaining high team engagement, swiftly resolving obstacles, and providing high-quality, mission-critical software that satisfies performance, security, and reliability requirements


Basic Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Scrum Master, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or a Master's degree in a related field with 3 years of relevant work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
  • Applicants must have a current, active in-scope Government-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
  • Previous experience working as a software engineer, systems engineer, or in other technical roles supporting software development teams
  • Knowledge of software engineering and development, particularly with Java/J2EE or similar object-oriented programming. Experience with C++ is also a plus
  • Candidate will have experience and knowledge of software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration management
  • Solid grasp of Agile methodologies and Scrum practices
  • Experience with Atlassian tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence) supporting Agile software development teams
  • Strong written and spoken communication abilities


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting software engineering for DoD programs and missile defense
  • Experience breaking down Agile features into user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria during PI and Sprint planning
  • Experience working within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment
  • Experience leading Agile teams that support complex DoD software systems
  • Agile certifications include Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), PMI Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), and Professional Scrum Master (PSM) are highly preferred

Primary Level Salary Range: $103,600.00 - $155,400.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
