As a Principal Scientist in Small Molecule Biomarkers (Metabolomics & Lipidomics) within our Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics (DMPK) team, you will play a key role in advancing safe and effective therapeutics for patients. Joining Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED), you will empower drug discovery across the organization by developing high-throughput mass spectrometry workflows and applying modern tools—including Generative AI—to drive biological insights.
Key Responsibilities:
● Method Development: Design and apply LC-HRMS and LC-MS/MS methods to acquire high-quality mass spectrometry biomarker data supporting drug discovery and development.
● Experimental Execution: Prepare and execute global and targeted metabolomics and lipidomics protocols across diverse biological specimens, including biofluids, tissues, and cells.
● Data & AI Workflows: Perform mass spectrometry data processing and statistical analysis; build or leverage Generative AI tools and software workflows to scale analysis and reporting.
● Quality & Insight: Oversee rigorous bioanalytical quality control using common industry practices and critical analytical reasoning.
● Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with multidisciplinary teams and project stakeholders to translate complex omics data into actionable drug target research.

Qualifications & Experience:
● Education & Industry Experience: PhD in biological, chemical, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field, accompanied by 3–5 years of direct experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
● Bioanalytical Expertise: Proven experience designing and executing assays for endogenous small molecule metabolites or lipids, including sample preparation techniques like precipitation, liquid-liquid, or solid-phase extraction.
● Technical Mastery: Practical experience operating and troubleshooting modern LC-MS platforms (e.g., UHPLC, triple quadrupole, high-resolution mass spectrometers) and using analytical data processing software.
● Metabolic & Computational Insight: Solid foundation in cellular metabolism, coupled with hands-on experience or strong aptitude using Generative AI tools for coding and biological insight generation.
● Collaboration & Communication: Excellent communication skills with a proven track record of working effectively in multidisciplinary project teams.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $143,200 - $265,900. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
