Full Job Description
What will you do?

We're hiring a Principal Program Manager for our NODE team to drive cross-organizational initiatives, influence VP-level roadmaps, and unlock hundreds of millions in cost savings and delivery performance through transformational improvements to our final mile network and delivery experience.

You'll operate with complete autonomy to identify and remediate endemic problems in our last-mile operations, drive architectural and operational decisions across Product, Commercial, Engineering, and Operations organizations, and establish the strategic mechanisms that enable Amazon Shipping to scale final mile delivery at the pace our business demands.

Working at the unique intersection where program leadership directly impacts delivery cost, speed, and reliability, you'll define multi-year operational and technical roadmaps, influence resource allocation across VP organizations, and solve significantly complex problems where both business and operational strategies are undefined.

You'll collaborate closely with:

Product Management teams defining final mile capabilities and roadmaps

Commercial teams driving enterprise shipper adoption and delivery SLAs

Engineering organizations building routing, dispatch, and delivery platforms

Operations teams running delivery stations and last-mile networks globally

Principal Engineers and Architects on routing, capacity, and network design decisions

VP-level leadership across multiple organizations

Who are you?

You're a seasoned program management leader with deep operational fluency in last-mile logistics and delivery networks, combined with exceptional strategic judgment and a proven ability to build consensus across diverse executive stakeholders. You have a track record of managing programs that span multiple VP organizations, operating independently in highly ambiguous environments where both the problem and the solution are undefined.

Key attributes:

Strategic thinker who connects operational and technical improvements to delivery cost and customer experience outcomes

Depth in final mile operations, route optimization, capacity planning, and distributed logistics systems

Executive presence with the ability to influence VP-level audiences

Data-driven decision maker who defines meaningful success metrics (cost per package, on-time delivery, delivery defects)

Strong owner who takes accountability for business impact beyond project delivery

Exceptional communicator who translates complex operational and technical concepts clearly

Proven ability to identify and remediate endemic problems at scale

You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments where operational decisions directly impact delivery cost and the customer experience for millions of packages a day. You're passionate about solving endemic problems that affect global last-mile operations while creating the playbook that scales Amazon Shipping's final mile worldwide.

Key job responsibilities

Strategic Program Leadership & Roadmap Ownership

Own the end-to-end strategy and execution for Amazon Shipping's final mile network, working across Product, Commercial, Engineering, and Operations VP organizations to drive operational and architectural decisions and organizational alignment

Define multi-year operational and technical roadmaps for final mile improvements that directly impact delivery speed, cost per package, on-time delivery rates, and delivery defect reduction

Influence resource allocation and technology investments across multiple organizations to ensure alignment with final mile strategy

Identify and remediate endemic problems that create delivery bottlenecks, limit network scalability, or cause recurring delivery defects, decomposing significantly complex challenges into straightforward solutions

Cross-Organizational Influence & Executive Engagement

Build consensus across VP organizations through effective narratives and presentations, representing complex operational and technical trade-offs clearly

Manage executive-level escalations with excellent judgment, balancing operational constraints with business priorities

Drive alignment between final mile goals and organizational objectives across global stakeholders

Partner with Principal Engineers and SDMs to ensure routing, dispatch, and capacity decisions scale to match business growth projections

Operational & Technical Excellence

Drive large-scale programs that solve complex problems in route optimization, capacity planning, dispatch, delivery tracking, exception handling, and driver/delivery-partner tooling

Evaluate network and system designs for scalability, delivery performance, safety, and operational excellence

Lead simplification initiatives that enable delivery-station and operations teams to operate independently and reduce operational and technical debt

Manage large-scale engineering and operations efforts that remediate endemic final mile problems with network-wide impact

Metrics, Visibility & Business Impact

Establish and own success metrics that connect operational and technical improvements to business outcomes (cost per package, on-time delivery, delivery defect rate, delivery speed, customer delivery experience)

Create mechanisms for continuous visibility and proactive risk identification across the final mile network

Own quarterly business reviews that translate operational metrics into business impact for executive audiences

Quantify the business impact of final mile improvements and communicate ROI to leadership

Team Development & Community Building

Amplify impact by creating and optimizing critical mechanisms that enable teams to deliver independently

Actively develop the program management community through mentoring, promotion assessments, and knowledge sharing

Raise the bar for program management excellence across Amazon Shipping

Streamline processes and drive adoption of best practices across multiple organizations

A day in the life

Your mornings start with strategic analysis-spotting patterns across the final mile network and quantifying business impact. You review delivery performance metrics, cost-per-package trends, on-time delivery rates, and delivery defect data to identify emerging trends and opportunities.

Mid-morning involves writing VP-level documents that drive operational and technology roadmaps and priorities. You craft narratives that connect delivery improvements to business outcomes, preparing for upcoming reviews and decision-making forums.

Afternoons focus on driving initiatives: partnering with Principal Solution Architects and SDMs on routing, capacity, and network design decisions, influencing cross-org priorities, and preparing narratives for executives. You facilitate alignment meetings, resolve blockers, and ensure programs stay on track.

Late afternoons are spent managing escalations and engaging with operations and enterprise partners. You work directly with delivery-station leaders and key shippers experiencing final mile challenges, translating their feedback into actionable improvements.

Throughout the day, you shift between diving deep on operational and technical problems and influencing stakeholders on business impacts. You balance strategic thinking with tactical execution, ensuring both immediate delivery wins and long-term network evolution.

You'll collaborate with engineering leaders building our adaptive delivery technology, operations teams executing our delivery promise on the ground, commercial stakeholders focused on scaling our shipper base, and product managers defining the future of final mile. This role demands someone who can toggle between strategic vision and tactical execution, turning last-mile challenges into opportunities for transformation.
