Role

Worley is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical engineering activities supporting projects within the Chemicals and Power business lines. This role serves as the Mechanical Discipline Lead on projects of varying size and complexity, guiding engineering teams through all phases of project execution while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, customer requirements, and regulatory obligations.

The ideal candidate is a collaborative and technically strong engineering professional with demonstrated leadership capabilities, sound engineering judgment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical engineering activities across all project phases, from conceptual development through detailed design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Serve as Mechanical Discipline Lead on assigned projects, ensuring deliverables are completed in accordance with scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of mechanical engineers and designers, providing technical direction and quality oversight.
  • Deliver mechanical engineering services that meet Worley, customer, and statutory requirements.
  • Participate in project planning activities, including engineering estimates, schedules, staffing plans, and execution strategies.
  • Monitor project progress and communicate engineering status, risks, and opportunities to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Develop, review, and approve mechanical equipment specifications, calculations, data sheets, and engineering deliverables.
  • Support procurement activities through preparation of technical requisitions, bid evaluations, vendor reviews, and technical recommendations.
  • Review and approve vendor documentation to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with process, piping, civil/structural, electrical, and instrumentation disciplines to resolve design challenges and support integrated project delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulatory requirements throughout project execution.
  • Support management of change processes and identify impacts to project scope, cost, and schedule.
  • Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, constructability reviews, and value improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, materials, and industry practices to support innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical mentoring and coaching to junior engineers and designers to support professional development and knowledge sharing.
  • Support client interactions and represent the mechanical discipline during technical meetings and project reviews.
  • Collaborate with Worley Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teams to ensure consistent execution and timely delivery of project deliverables.
  • Conduct site visits and field walkdowns, as required, to support project execution, commissioning, troubleshooting, and construction activities.


What You Will Bring

Technical and Industry Experience
  • Demonstrated ability to lead mechanical engineering activities on multidisciplinary capital projects from concept through detailed design and execution on brownfield and greenfield projects within the oil, gas, chemical, petrochemical, power, and bulk materials sectors.
  • Familiarity with various project phases (Pre-FEED, FEED, Detail Design) and the scope/deliverables required
  • Demonstrated expertise in the materials, design, fabrication, inspection, and testing of mechanical equipment.
  • Experience with applicable industry standards for a wide range of mechanical equipment (ASME, API, etc.), and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands and deliver to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively with other disciplines; understand engineering sequencing and workflows; and support customer design reviews.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and sound judgment, with the ability to influence outcomes in regulated, safety-critical environments.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement, with a customer-focused approach to delivery.

Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
  • 12+ years of mechanical engineering experience supporting chemical processing, industrial, or power generation projects.
  • Demonstrated experience serving in a lead mechanical engineering role on capital projects.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Preferred
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for registration in the State of West Virginia.
  • Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, OneNote).
