THE ROLE

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer in the Data Center Platform Engineering Group, you will drive the mechanical design for AMD's next-generation server and GPU platforms. This role is highly technical and influential, requiring deep expertise in mechanical systems and product integration. You will play a key role in shaping the physical design of AMD's high-power platforms, ensuring robust and manufacturable solutions.
  • Drive mechanical architecture for AMD's flagship server and GPU products that power leading-edge data centers worldwide.
  • Work at the highest technical level with top experts across mechanical, thermal, and structural disciplines and shape engineering standards used across programs.

THE PERSON

The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanical engineering professional who combines technical excellence with strategic thinking. You have a strong professional background in mechanical design including server and GPU systems, data center infrastructure, and cross-functional collaboration. You thrive in fast-paced environments, enjoy solving complex design challenges, and can influence technical direction across teams and product lines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the mechanical design for advanced server and GPU platforms.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs and prototypes; validate through simulation, analysis, and physical testing.
  • Collaborate with system architecture, board, validation, and manufacturing teams to ensure cohesive product development and system reliability.
  • Represent AMD in technical reviews, customer engagements, and industry forums.
  • Provide consultative direction to senior leadership on mechanical strategy and design trade-offs.
  • Mentor engineers, guide technical direction across functional boundaries, and foster innovation.
  • Make critical decisions impacting multiple product families, go-to-market readiness, and overall customer satisfaction.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Principal level, mechanical or product design professional experience, ideally in server hardware, GPU systems, or high-performance computing environments.
  • Proven expertise in mechanical design for server and rack solutions.
  • Expert proficiency with CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or equivalent, with advanced modeling and assembly management skills.
  • Strong familiarity with DFM principles and manufacturing processes for high-volume production.
  • Deep understanding of mechanical materials, manufacturing processes (sheet metal, injection molding, die casting, extrusion), and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration with electrical, thermal, and validation teams.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence across organizations.


ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field highly preferred, Master's degree desired
