Entity: Clinical Practices of University of Pennsylvania Department: Medicine Finance Location: Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania- 3400 Spruce St Hours: Full Time Summary: - The Principal Financial Analyst acts as the technical financial analysis expert for the department reporting directly to the department CFO. The Principal Financial Analyst has a strong understanding of financial concepts and proper application of data analysis to enhance the performance of the department. The principal Financial Analyst is responsible for explaining financial documents and complex accounting analysis to leadership including month end close reviews. The incumbent has an in-depth understanding of Capital and Operating budgets and multi-year budgets and is involved in the analysis and builds each year. The Principal Financial Analyst has the ability to attend and present financial analysis and information on the behalf of the CFO to senior leadership. The Principal Financial Analyst communicates complex concepts in a clear manner with managers and senior leadership within the department, as well as other corporate departments (A/P, Purchasing, Finance, Capital Accounting). Contact with outside vendors is limited. Responsibilities: - Review and preparation of month end closing entries. - Ability to Multitask and manage shifting priorities and deadlines, with an ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment. - Provide guidance and on development on analysis and variance explanations for monthly reporting. Completes complex variance analyses such as revenue variance analysis. - Creates PowerPoint presentations on financials and budgets for senior leadership. - Instrumental in building the Capital and Operating Budgets each year. - Routinely meet with department finance members to go over departmental monthly operational results. - Partners with COOs, CFOs, PSOM and CPUP leadership on the development of the Departmental Strategic Plan(s). - Where applicable, mentor financial analysts in and outside department. Credentials: Education or Equivalent Experience: - Bachelor of Arts or Science (Required)Education Specialization: Finance, Accounting or Information Technology - 6+ years experience in a Finance department, with progressive accounting and budgeting experience, for a Healthcare System.
