Job DescriptionOracle Hardware Division (OHD), within Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer to lead assigned GPU platform development and implementation in collaboration with external manufacturers and NVIDIA and AMD engineering teams.
In this role, you will apply advanced GPU and CPU system engineering expertise to hardware and software integration, validation, qualification, and production delivery. You will work closely with Oracle hardware, software, and cloud engineering teams, GPU and CPU suppliers, and joint design manufacturers to ensure successful hardware product development and manufacturing readiness.
This is an individual contributor role requiring independent judgment, technical expertise, and cross-functional leadership. You will work autonomously on moderately complex assignments, lead projects and processes within the team, and deliver results through technical influence, collaboration, and effective program execution.
Responsibilities- Lead assigned GPU system development and implementation activities from requirements definition through qualification and production readiness.
- Translate internal customer needs into engineering requirements and coordinate technical deliverables with Oracle engineering teams and external manufacturing partners.
- Apply GPU and CPU system engineering expertise to evaluate hardware and software integration, including firmware, drivers, and baseboard management controllers (BMCs).
- Collaborate with NVIDIA, AMD, and external manufacturing partners to investigate system integration issues using vendor validation tools, engineering logs, and technical analysis.
- Coordinate internal and external hardware validation and qualification testing to ensure products meet established requirements before customer release.
- Review validation results, engineering logs, and technical findings; document readiness evidence and drive resolution of quality, integration, and delivery issues.
- Develop and execute hardware project plans, aligning supplier priorities, schedules, engineering dependencies, and deliverables with program objectives and budget constraints.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and program risks while managing changes through established review and escalation processes.
- Evaluate alternative technical approaches, assess quality, schedule, and cost implications, and implement agreed solutions.
- Lead cross-functional engineering and project activities through technical credibility, collaboration, and influence without direct authority.
- Communicate technical trade-offs, project progress, risks, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
- Prepare technical reports, project updates, and leadership briefings, including senior executive reviews as required.
- Drive improvements in hardware validation, system integration, and program execution processes.
- Mentor junior colleagues, provide technical guidance and task oversight, and coordinate vendors, contractors, or temporary staff as needed.
- Build productive working relationships across Oracle engineering organizations, external suppliers, and manufacturing partners to support successful product delivery.
QualificationsRequired Qualifications- Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering, hardware systems engineering, and associated engineering principles, practices, and procedures.
- Broad knowledge of GPU or CPU system engineering, including architecture, system integration, validation, and production readiness.
- Practical experience with NVIDIA and AMD platforms, including hardware and software integration involving firmware, drivers, and baseboard management controllers (BMCs).
- Demonstrated experience supporting hardware systems through development, qualification, and production delivery.
- Experience using vendor validation tools, interpreting engineering logs, investigating system-level issues, and collaborating with engineering teams to resolve technical problems.
- Experience working with external manufacturers, suppliers, or joint design manufacturers on complex hardware development programs.
- Demonstrated ability to manage hardware project requirements, schedules, dependencies, quality, risks, and budget tracking across multiple organizations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate complex technical issues, assess alternatives, and make evidence-based recommendations.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound technical judgment, and manage moderately complex assignments with multiple variables and potential outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts, risks, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional activities, influence stakeholders without direct authority, and collaborate effectively with internal and external engineering teams.
- Ability to adapt to changing requirements and delivery conditions while maintaining disciplined planning, risk management, escalation, and follow-through.
- Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring colleagues, and coordinating cross-functional project activities.
Education and Experience- Degree in Electrical Engineering, with relevant education and experience assessed under Oracle's published equivalency guidance.
- Typical IC4 experience profile is 12+ years of relevant experience, assessed with applicable education and experience equivalencies under Oracle's Career Level Guide. This is a typical career-level profile rather than an automatic requirement for 12 years of employment in addition to a degree.
- Typical education equivalencies are four years for a bachelor's degree, six years for a master's degree, and eight to nine years for a doctorate.
- Relevant certifications, military technical training, or demonstrated project work may contribute where applicable and are assessed on a case-by-case basis. Equivalencies are evaluated for relevance to the role without double-counting overlapping credentials.
