About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Principal Analyst to lead research and analysis across the North American clean technology sector as part of the Renewables Markets team.
The Team
S&P Global Energy CERA is a leading provider of energy and clean technology data, research, analytics, and insight. We are seeking a Principal Analyst to join our growing Renewables and Clean Technologies team, with a focus on the North American market.
The successful candidate will provide thought leadership and market intelligence across a broad range of established and emerging clean technologies, including solar, wind, battery energy storage, geothermal, advanced nuclear, carbon management, and other technologies shaping the energy transition. The role will focus on understanding the market, policy, regulatory, commercial, and competitive dynamics driving technology deployment and investment across North America.
Responsibilities and Impact:
The successful candidate will combine deep industry expertise with strong analytical, research, and communication skills to deliver actionable insights for clients across the energy value chain. This role requires the ability to connect technology, policy, market fundamentals, business models, and corporate strategy into clear and compelling research.
Responsibilities:
- Lead research and analysis on North American clean technology markets, tracking key developments, growth trends, and investment activity across both mature and emerging technologies.
- Produce high-quality market reports, thematic studies, forecasts, and thought leadership covering technology deployment, policy developments, economics, business models, and competitive positioning.
- Analyze federal and state-level policies, incentives, regulatory frameworks, and market mechanisms influencing clean energy adoption and investment.
- Evaluate market opportunities, barriers to deployment, supply chain developments, commercialization pathways, and emerging industry risks.
- Assess corporate strategies, business models, partnerships, and competitive dynamics across the clean technology ecosystem.
- Engage directly with clients to discuss market developments, present research findings, and provide expert insight on key industry trends.
- Support the development of new research offerings and contribute to expanding the team's coverage of emerging technologies and market topics.
- Collaborate across global research teams to deliver integrated perspectives on clean technology deployment, policy, and investment trends.
Compensation/Benefits Information:
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $94,000 to $107,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.
In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We're Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have significant experience analyzing clean energy and energy transition markets, with a strong understanding of how technology, policy, regulation, and commercial drivers interact to shape industry outcomes.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Energy Studies, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in energy, clean technology, market research, consulting, industry analysis, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of North American clean energy markets, including policy, regulatory, investment, and market dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality written research and communicate complex ideas to senior industry audiences.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong presentation and client engagement skills, with the ability to represent S&P Global at industry events and client meetings.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across a global team.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in one or more clean technology sectors, such as solar, battery storage, wind, geothermal, hydrogen, advanced nuclear, carbon capture, or grid infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of federal and state clean energy policies, permitting frameworks, and market design considerations.
- Familiarity with investment trends, project development processes, supply chains, and commercialization strategies across the energy transition ecosystem.
- Experience developing market forecasts, scenario analysis, or strategic assessments for clients and stakeholders.
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred.
