Position Summary:
Airbus U.S. is looking for an enthusiastic and creative Platform Avionics Director to design, analyze, and test new satellite and aerospace systems. We're looking for candidates who can bring exceptional engineering skills and strong leadership in aerospace programs to the team.
Position Responsibilities:
The Platform Avionics Director's primary responsibility will be leading the Platform Avionics Department. This team will be involved in the full lifecycle of development, from requirements definition, design, qualification, verification and operations. Being at the cutting edge of space technology, we need someone who is eager to learn, grow, and take on new and potentially unfamiliar challenges. There is no shortage of fascinating problems to solve.
The Platform Avionics Director will provide autonomous solutions of complex problems, through direct work and delegation, under the leadership of the Chief Technology Officer. The Platform Avionics Director will have project and subject matter responsibility and authority.
Platform Avionics Team Leadership 75%
Lead of the Platform Avionics department, with a focus on program execution, capabilities development, personnel growth, process development, and cross-functional coordination.
Specific groups and activities falling under this department include:
Flight Software (architecture, development, unit test).
Guidance, Navigation, and Control (architecture, algorithms, analysis, hardware).
Command and Data Handling (architecture, analysis, hardware).
Simulators (development and execution of hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop testing).
Systems Architecture Development 15%
Support Systems Architecture team for Arrow satellite platform development. Responsibilities include:
Avionics architecture inputs supporting overall system, program, and mission requirements.
Support requirements development - initial definition, decomposition and flowdown, management.
System design and trade studies - high level concept trades to support subsequent detail design.
Ability to drive multiple design activities (programs or mission).
Lead cross-functional teams in planning, coordination, and task execution, reporting to External Customers and Internal Program Managers.
Grows and develops the Avionics Systems Architecture tools, processes, and methods for Airbus U.S.
Additional Responsibilities 10%
Perform all the necessary systems engineering activities to build, to maintain and to evolve the Airbus spacecraft products and execute development roadmaps.
Provide input for new business capture including proposals and Basis of Estimates.
Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
Preferred: Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas.
Recommended Experience:
A minimum of 25 years with a Bachelor's degree, or 20 years with a Master's degree.
Proven track-record of working with aerospace HW and SW, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs through detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, test, deployment, and operations.
Proven track-record of managing people and multiple multi-disciplinary teams.
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
Proficiency with the overall satellite system development process along with specific knowledge of the software development processes and techniques.
Software architecture and development experience, including leadership of software teams across multiple parallel programs.
Expertise in elements of space mission designs and architectures- including satellite systems, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc.
Communicate in a clear and concise manner effectively across multiple levels.
Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment.

Eligibility:
US Citizenship.
Periodic travel (less than 20%) to Airbus U.S. facilities or partner companies.
