Your role in the mission:Type One Energy is seeking a Scientist with experience in fusion plasma diagnostics to join its growing team. As a Scientist, you will be responsible for leading a subset of diagnostic systems to support scientific investigations on our advanced fusion stellarator including development, deployment and operation.
Your expertise will be instrumental in driving progress and ensuring the successful operation of diagnostic systems critical to achieving our research and commercial goals. The ideal candidate will also give technical advice and otherwise contribute to other teams of Engineers and Scientists on similar projects throughout Type One Energy.
Responsibilities- Lead the conceptualization, design, construction, and deployment of a subset of plasma diagnostics such as probes, magnetics, microwaves, infrared, spectroscopy, lasers, optical, x-ray, and/or neutronics systems to ensure they meet technical feasibility.
- Develop and apply data analysis and models to set requirements for plasma diagnostics and other in-vessel stellarator systems
- Participate in planning, execution, and analysis of experiments.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior scientists and engineers, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.
What you'll need:- Ph.D. in Physics, Engineering, or a related field with a strong focus on plasma physics, fusion energy, and/or diagnostics.
- Extensive experience in designing, developing, and operating advanced diagnostic systems for fusion or plasma physics experiments.
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic techniques and instrumentation commonly used in plasma physics, such as spectroscopy.
- Proficiency in data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation using scientific software and programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to diagnostic systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, present findings to diverse audiences, and contribute to scientific publications and proposals.
- Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures related to fusion experiments and diagnostics.
- Knowledge of fusion stellarator concepts, including device physics and operational requirements, is highly desirable
