ABOUT THE ROLE

The Plant Buyer is responsible for supporting the day-to-day purchasing needs of the manufacturing facility, with primary responsibility for indirect spending, Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials, and plant services. This position ensures the plant has the materials, parts, supplies, equipment, and services needed to operate safely, reliably, and efficiently while maintaining appropriate cost, quality, service, and inventory controls.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH
  • Manage purchasing activities for plant indirect spend, including MRO parts and supplies, tools, safety supplies, operating consumables, equipment, and contracted services.
  • Partner with Maintenance, Operations, and storeroom personnel to understand routine, planned, emergency, and shutdown requirements and ensure necessary materials and services are available to support plant operations, including inventory and critical spare parts.
  • Process purchase requisitions and purchase orders accurately and timely in accordance with company procurement policies, approval requirements, delegated authority, and established financial controls.
  • Source and evaluate suppliers based on cost, quality, availability, lead time, service, and overall value; obtain competitive quotes and negotiate pricing, terms, delivery expectations, and service requirements within established authority levels.
  • Procure and coordinate plant services, including maintenance and repair services, equipment servicing, facilities support, contractors, rentals, and other operational services.
  • Develop and maintain effective supplier relationships, monitor supplier performance, and address issues related to delivery, pricing, quality, availability, and service.
  • Monitor open purchase orders, backorders, lead times, and critical deliveries; proactively identify and communicate potential supply disruptions and coordinate resolution with suppliers and plant stakeholders.
  • Analyze purchasing and spending data to identify cost savings, supplier consolidation, preferred-supplier utilization, process improvements, and unmanaged or noncompliant spend.
  • Partner with Accounts Payable, Finance, and internal stakeholders to resolve invoice, pricing, receiving, and other procure-to-pay discrepancies.
  • Coordinate with enterprise Procurement/Sourcing to leverage national agreements, preferred suppliers, strategic sourcing initiatives, and broader purchasing opportunities while addressing plant-specific needs.
  • Maintain accurate supplier, purchasing, pricing, and procurement documentation within applicable systems and ensure purchasing activities comply with company policies, supplier requirements, and applicable contractual terms.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving, and adhering to health, safety, and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

Education: Bachelor's degree

Field of Study Preferred: Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations, or Finance

Required Work Experience: Two to five years of purchasing, procurement, supply chain, MRO, maintenance planning, inventory, or related manufacturing experience

Additional Requirements:
  • Experience in purchasing indirect materials and services within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Working knowledge of purchasing and procurement practices, preferably within a manufacturing, industrial, maintenance, or MRO environment, with an understanding of indirect materials, maintenance parts, plant services, supplier management, inventory considerations, and procure-to-pay processes.
  • The position requires strong analytical, organizational, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to evaluate pricing, supplier options, lead times, service levels, and total value when making purchasing decisions.
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize-approved Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to respirators. Employees who are required to wear respirators must be clean-shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
