Responsibilities

  • Administers anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain and sensations during the surgical, obstetrical, and other medical procedures.
  • Monitors the viral signs of the patient during surgery or medical procedure and carry out the necessary adjustments accordingly.
  • Monitors the patient through the initial recovery stage and administer drugs and medications that arc essential during recovery
  • Helps in pain management, to patients suffering from chronic pain such as respiratory and neurological illnesses.
  • Examines the patients before the surgery getting their medical history to determine degree of surgical risk during surgery or medical procedures.
  • Discusses the findings with medical practitioner concerned with case.
  • Records the amount of anesthesia and sedation administered and the condition of the patient before, during, and after anesthetic.
  • Positions the patient on the operating table to provide maximum comfort and providing surgical accessibility to both the patient and the surgeon.
  • Provides and maintains life support and airway management during an emergency.
  • Prepares a patient before an emergency surgery.
  • Administers three types of anesthesia; general, local, and regional.
  • Coordinates and directs work of nurses, medical technicians and other health care providers.
  • Instructs medical students and other personnel in characteristics and methods of administering various types of anesthetics signs and symptoms of reactions and complications and emergency measures to employ.
  • Schedules and maintains use of surgical suite, including operating, wash-up, waiting rooms and anesthetic and sterilizing equipment.
  • Conducts medical research lo aid in controlling and curing disease, to investigate new medications, and to develop and lest new medical techniques.
  • The Anesthesiologist communication responsibilities include:
    • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone.
    • Responds to overhead pages
  • The Anesthesiologist citizenship responsibilities include:
    • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements.
    • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job.
    • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards.

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications
