Position SummaryResponsible for providing Hospital Rounding and Inpatient Orthopaedic and Spine Consults at Chester County Hospital. The APP will support all physicians that go to Chester County Hospital.
Position is Monday - Friday; no weekends.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS1. Orthopedic Consultations
- Initial Evaluations: Respond to consultation requests from the Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Units (ICU), and internal medicine floors.
- Diagnostics: Perform comprehensive musculoskeletal exams, order and interpret imaging (X-rays, CTs, MRIs), and review relevant laboratory data.
- Treatment Planning: Formulate and initiate evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with the attending orthopedic surgeon.
- Procedures: Perform urgent bedside procedures, including:
- Joint aspirations and injections.
- Splinting, casting, and traction application (e.g., skeletal traction).
2. Inpatient Rounding & Management
- Daily Assessments: Conduct daily rounds on all hospitalized orthopedic patients (post-operative and non-operative admissions).
- Acute Care Management: Monitor post-operative recovery, manage acute pain, optimize fluid balance, and address common medical complications (e.g., post-op anemia, DVT prophylaxis, surgical site infections).
- Care Coordination: Partner closely with physical therapy (PT), occupational therapy (OT), case management, and nursing staff to advance the patient's mobility and care goals.
3. Discharge Planning & Continuity
- Transition of Care: Facilitate safe and efficient discharges by reconciling medications, arranging home health or acute rehab placements, and writing detailed discharge summaries.
- Patient Education: Counsel patients and families on weight-bearing restrictions, wound care, signs of infection, and outpatient follow-up schedules.
Education:- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
- Bachelor's degree required.
Licenses & Certifications: - Active and unrestricted Pennsylvania Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner (or eligibility to obtain).
Experience: - Minimum of 1 year as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner, ideally in an orthopaedic environment.
- Familiarity with Athena or other EMR systems preferred.
