The University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine Department of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies, located in Reno, Nevada, is seeking an individual interested in joining a fast-paced, highly motivated, energetic, and passionate team as a member of the Principal Academic Faculty. This academic position is a 12-month faculty (non-tenure), 1.0 FTE position in the Department of PA Studies.

As an integral member of the PA faculty, this position has a unique opportunity to be part of a growing program with the support of the Program Director, the University of Nevada, Reno of School of Medicine, and engaged community partners. The preferred candidate has knowledge of current accreditation (ARC-PA) standards, a background in education, including creative and innovative interprofessional content delivery, and data-informed student assessment with curricular analysis to drive continuous improvement. The preferred candidate ideally has experience in PA education, clinical practice experience, and the ability to work independently and in coordination with other faculty, staff, and community partners. The Principal Faculty member must support the program’s mission and adhere to the required ARC-PA accreditation process through its defined standards.

The Faculty position reports to the Program Director and responsibilities may include, but to:

  • Developing, reviewing, and revising as necessary the mission statement, goals, and competencies of the program

  • Selecting applicants for admission to the PA program

  • Directing courses and providing student instruction necessary to meet program goals and outcomes

  • Evaluating student performance

  • Academic counseling of students

  • Participating in the availability of remedial instruction and facilitation of students’ academic progress

  • Designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating the curriculum

  • Program administration, accreditation activities, continuous development, review, planning, outcomes evaluation, and overall effectiveness of the PA program

  • Assisting in the coordination of the clinical phase, including recruitment of new clinical preceptors

  • Participating in the recruitment of new adjunct and full-time faculty;

  • Participating, if appropriate, in clinical activities in the Department of Family and Community Medicine or another clinical department

  • Active participation in program committees and workgroups

  • Service on school and university committees and councils, and,

  • Other activities to support and enhance the program’s success.

Required Qualifications

  • Possess a terminal degree (Master’s or higher) in Science or Physician Assistant Studies or related field from an accredited university.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of academic and/or clinical practice experience (>5 strongly preferred) in their field.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to motivate students to achieve goals and objectives.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NCCPA certified PA, eligible for licensure in Nevada.

  • Graduate of an accredited PA Program.

  • Prior experience in a PA faculty role for an accredited PA program is highly desired.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collegially in a multi-disciplinary setting, working with various constituents, including students, scholars, and professionals across the healthcare fields.

  • Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, teaching, and administration of medical education programs with a commitment to excellence and innovation.

  • Dynamic interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and flexibility in responding to changing demands.

  • Advanced capability using technology and at a minimum: PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, and Zoom.

  • Willingness to accept the challenge of developing new initiatives and evolving practices and techniques to meet real-world challenges.

Grants-in-Aid for Faculty Employees
