Summary
The People Technology Senior Specialist, Workday serves as a senior functional expert within the People Technology team, responsible for the configuration, optimization, governance, and ongoing support of Workday and related HR technology platforms. This role provides broad functional support across Core HCM, Compensation, Talent, Recruiting, Performance, Learning, Reporting, and Integrations, ensuring Workday solutions are scalable, well-governed, and aligned to business needs.
The ideal candidate brings strong Workday configuration experience, a broad understanding of HR operations, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into practical system solutions. This role partners closely with HR Centers of Excellence, HR Business Partners, Payroll, Finance, IT, and business leaders to support enterprise initiatives, improve employee and manager experiences, maintain data integrity, and drive operational excellence across the People Technology ecosystem.
Responsibilities – Workday Functional Support & Configuration
Serve as a senior functional expert across Workday and related People Technology applications, with support across multiple Workday functional areas.
Lead requirements gathering sessions with business stakeholders and translate functional needs into scalable, sustainable system solutions.
Assess the system impact of policy changes, organizational changes, process redesigns, acquisitions, and enterprise initiatives.
Recommend and implement Workday best practices, leveraging delivered functionality whenever possible to reduce customization and improve maintainability.
Business Process, Security & Governance
Design, configure, and maintain Workday business processes, approvals, notifications, condition rules, and related configuration components.
Partner with security administrators and functional owners to support role-based security, access reviews, and appropriate data visibility.
Maintain configuration documentation, decision logs, process maps, and governance standards to support long-term system sustainability.
Identify and mitigate risks related to data quality, system configuration, business process design, and user access.
Projects, Enhancements & Release Management
Lead medium to large-scale Workday projects, enhancements, releases, and optimization efforts from requirements through deployment.
Develop project plans, timelines, testing strategies, cutover approaches, and implementation plans for Workday initiatives.
Coordinate configuration efforts across HR, IT, Payroll, Finance, Compensation, Talent, Recruiting, Learning, and external vendors.
Evaluate Workday release functionality, assess business impact, and recommend adoption strategies aligned to organizational priorities.
Support enterprise transformation initiatives, including job architecture, compensation programs, talent processes, organizational design, workforce planning, and employee lifecycle improvements.
Stakeholder Partnership, Enablement & Documentation
Build strong relationships with HR Centers of Excellence, HR Business Partners, Payroll, Finance, IT, and business leaders.
Act as a trusted advisor on Workday capabilities, system options, process design, and People Technology best practices.
Facilitate stakeholder alignment, decision-making, and prioritization across competing business needs.
Develop user guidance, training materials, standard operating procedures, and support documentation to enable effective system adoption.
Provide consultative support to end users and functional partners, helping teams understand system functionality, process impacts, and data usage.
Required Skills & Experience
7 years of experience in HRIS, People Technology, HR operations, or related systems roles.
5 years of hands-on Workday configuration experience across multiple functional areas.
Broad understanding of Workday Core HCM, business processes, security concepts, compensation, reporting, and employee lifecycle processes.
Experience gathering business requirements and translating them into functional designs, configuration, testing plans, and support documentation.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and recommend scalable solutions.
Experience leading or supporting cross-functional Workday projects, enhancements, release cycles, and operational support activities.
Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
Workday Pro certifications or equivalent Workday expertise.
Experience supporting Workday modules such as Compensation, Talent, Performance, Learning, Payroll, Benefits, or Time Tracking.
Experience with Workday reporting, calculated fields, dashboards, EIBs, and data loads.
Exposure to Workday integrations, downstream systems, and data management processes.
Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, organizational redesigns, job architecture initiatives, or large-scale HR transformations.
Knowledge of project management, change management, release management, and HR technology governance practices.
This role pays between $120,000/Yr to $135,000/Yr, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, responsibilities, experience, and location.
