Full Job Description
As a member of the YNHCH Pediatric Audiology program, the Pediatric Audiologist ensures high quality clinical standards are met through American Academy of Audiology Pediatric Standards. This role Is responsible for performing clinical and audiology related diagnostic and rehabilitative procedures. The pediatric audiologist participates as a key member of a multidisciplinary team supporting YNHCH services including ambulatory care. The audiologist is under the direction of YNHCH Pediatric Audiology Coordinator, aligning with the Director of the Pediatric Specialty Centers/YNHCH. Collaborating physician support is through YM Pediatric ENT Physician

Responsibilities

  • 1. Performs assessments on children to determine degree of hearing loss (if any) by evaluating children via behavioral evaluations, otoacoustic emission and electro acoustic measures as needed.
  • 2. All patient care responsibilities will be performed consistent with age-specific and developmentally appropriate guidelines.
  • 3. Assesses children for candidacy of hearing assistive technology: ie: hearing aids, cochlear implants and develops a comprehensive, culturally appropriate audiological habilitation management plan regarding the fitting, dispensing, and trouble-shooting of assisted hearing technology.
  • 4. Counsels family members concerning the special needs of children with hearing loss to effectively involve parents and other family members in the treatment and management of hearing loss.
  • 5. Consults with collegues, Otolaryngology attending physician specialists, ancillary dept staff (rehabilitation, speech pathologists, and others) and referring specialists or pediatricians in which to communicate and coordinate patient care.
  • 6. Completes and prepares reports in a timely manner, (as defined by dept), including interpretation of results, recommendations and potential outcomes. Ensures report is routed to to referring provider whether available electronically or other source.
  • 7. Ensures compliance with documentation, billing and compliance for both Hosp, Univ, and regulatory agency requirements
  • 8. Ensures patient safety and quality of care provided by referring patients for additional testing, treatment, according to evidences based standards of the American Academy of Audiology (AAA), YNHH, YM Policy
  • 9. Is responsible to remain knowledgeable and up to date on current practice, as well as engage in ongoing professional development through internal and external resources, educational offerings, committees . Includes both locally and nationally
  • 10. Participates in clinical, data collection, and administrative phases of research, to support practice as needed.
  • 11. Supports educational needs of students through precepting, providing observational experiences and presentations prn
  • 12. Organizes clinical equipment and supplies, and maintains inventory, including ordering and dispensing to ensure fiscal accountabilty
  • 13. Collaborates with PFS , third party carriers, vendors, schools , and parents as needed to ensure communication and coordination of plans for financial coverage options.
  • 14. Is flexible to meet the changing needs of the program including support for other pediatric audiologists and/or testing needs

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Doctorate in Audiology (Aud)

EXPERIENCE

One (1) to two (2) years as a clinical audiologist in pediatrics with experience in diagnostics and rehabilitation of hearing loss, preferably in a large medical center based practice. Clinical fellowship with pediatric focus will be considered

LICENSURE

Doctorate in Audiology (Aud) or equivalent required. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology;

SPECIAL SKILLS

Excellent interpersonal, clinical, and organizational skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, family members, including those with special needs and disabilities. Must be able to collaborate and communicate as a member of the multidisciplinaary teams of physicians and ancillary staff

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Must be willing to support practice in YNHCH sites, including ambulatory satellite locations
