ABOUT THIS ROLEWe are currently looking for a Full Time Payment Acceptance Manager to join our growing team who will help run and grow how customers pay for their transfers at Ria and Xe, online and in store. This person will drive authorization rate, cost and reliability improvements across our acquirers, gateways and alternative payment methods, and will play a hands-on role in moving our retail card acceptance and POS terminal initiatives forward.
Based at our Buena Park headquarters, the Payment Acceptance Manager will be the team's anchor in US time zones, working closely with Product, Engineering, Finance, Treasury, Legal, Compliance, Fraud and Retail Operations, and with the global payments team in Madrid. You will own measurable outcomes across the payment funnel end to end, from payment method selection and checkout to authorization, settlement and cost.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES Digital payment acceptance
- Monitor and improve authorization rates, payment success rates and checkout conversion across cards, bank payments and alternative payment methods for the Ria app, web and Xe.
- Lead root-cause analysis on declines and payment failures (issuer declines, soft declines and retries, 3DS/SCA friction, network tokens, processor errors) and drive fixes with Product and Engineering.
- Contribute to multi-acquirer routing, failover and least-cost routing strategies, and track their impact on approval rates and cost.
- Help build business cases and launch plans for new fund-in methods (for example RTP/FedNow, open banking, digital wallets and local payment methods in Latin America).
Retail payment acceptance
- Support the planning and rollout of card acceptance and POS terminals across company-owned stores and agent locations, including terminal selection, certification, configuration (MCC set-up), deployment waves and store training.
- Build the operating model for in-store acceptance with Retail Operations, IT, Finance and our providers: terminal logistics and provisioning, software updates, incident management and support SLAs.
- Define and track B&M acceptance KPIs such as approval rate, terminal uptime, transaction time, cost per transaction and adoption by store.
- Identify omnichannel opportunities such as Pay by Link and shared tokens across digital and store channels.
Provider management and commercials
- Act as day-to-day relationship manager for acquirers, processors, gateways, alternative payment providers and card networks: run business reviews, track SLAs and escalate incidents.
- Support contract negotiations, RFPs and pricing analysis (IC++ pricing, scheme fees, network incentive programs), and reconcile processor invoices to reduce processing costs.
- Source and evaluate new payment vendors and partners as business needs evolve.
Compliance, risk and operations - Partner with Legal, Compliance and Fraud to keep acceptance aligned with card network rules (including money transfer and Account Funding Transaction requirements), Nacha rules, PCI DSS and applicable US and Canadian regulations.
- Serve as liaison to Finance, Treasury, Product and Legal on payment operations issues, and create documentation and processes that let payment operations scale.
Data, tracking and AI-enabled ways of working
- Help build and maintain acceptance dashboards and alerting, and define the tracking plan and success metrics for every new launch.
- Use AI tools such as Claude, Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT daily to speed up data analysis, draft BRDs and provider documentation, review contracts and scheme bulletins, and build lightweight automations.
- Help the team adopt AI responsibly: share prompts and workflows, and follow company data protection, security and AI usage policies.
- Write clear business requirement documents, runbooks and executive updates.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- A/BS degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering or a related field; MBA preferred, but not required.
- 5+ years of experience in payment acceptance, payment operations or payments product at a merchant, PSP/acquirer or fintech, preferably with international and cross-border exposure.
- Strong knowledge of card acceptance: authorization flows, interchange and scheme fees, 3DS, tokenization, routing and chargebacks.
- Hands-on experience with card-present / B&M acceptance: POS terminals, EMV, terminal deployment and in-store PCI requirements.
- Experience working with major PSPs and acquirers (for example Adyen, Worldpay, Fiserv, Checkout.com, Cybersource or Elavon).
- Working knowledge of US payment rails, including ACH, debit networks and real-time payments (RTP/FedNow).
- AI proficiency: demonstrated, regular use of generative AI tools (for example Claude, Microsoft Copilot or ChatGPT) for analysis, documentation or automation, with concrete examples of how they improved speed or quality of work.
- Strong quantitative and financial modeling skills; comfortable with SQL, Excel and product analytics or BI tools (for example Amplitude, Tableau, Looker or Power BI).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to senior leadership and negotiate with external partners.
- Outstanding project management skills and the ability to run several initiatives at once in a fast-paced, changing environment.
- High level of initiative; able to work independently and with a global team across time zones.
- Ability to travel up to 20% (stores, providers and team sites).
PREFERRED- Experience in money transfer, remittances or cross-border payments, including card network rules for money transfer merchants.
- Experience building AI-assisted workflows (for example Claude Projects, Copilot agents, prompt libraries or Power Automate flows).
- Familiarity with Latin American payment methods (for example SPEI, PIX, Bre-B, etc.).
