Full Job Description
Primary Purpose

The Principal Process Engineer will provide technical assurance and leadership for the design, start-up, and on-going support on, liquefaction and other renewable projects developed by Sempra Infrastructure.

Reviews EPC Contractor deliverables and makes recommendations to ensure the designs are safe, fit-for-purpose and meet industry codes and project specifications, including developing conceptual studies to increase reliability, operability, production capacity and safety. Closes/reviews resolutions to HAZOP actions and Design Change Notices during the design phase, construction, commissioning, and start-up of the LNG facility.

Develops Operating Procedures and Protocols as part of the RFO process for Port Arthur project.

Support the day-to-day operations of PALNG post-commissioning and startup.

This position will be located in Port Arthur, Texas during commissioning, startup and Operate Phase of PALNG.

Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC) is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Leads and manages assigned phases of the technical development and implementation of LNG and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Coordinates and reviews the process design including the preparation and review of data, process flow diagrams (PFD's), P&ID's, heat and material balances (HMB), equipment process data sheets, and commissioning and start-up requirements.
  • Coordinates work activities of sub-groups other process team members, and oversees accuracy of group's work and overall performance against scope, budget, and schedule.
  • Monitors and provides project status updates to project management and project development including relevant conditions and activities that may impact the development, completion, or performance of the project.
  • Participates in process safety studies, including HAZID and HAZOP reviews, and leads the implementation of recommended actions.
  • Manages third parties, vendors, consultants, and subcontractors in the development of process-related studies and evaluation of equipment performance, site/performance test calculations/recommendations and in the review of appropriate documentation for turnover.
  • Participates in development of project/operating philosophies and operating procedures.
  • Provides technical expertise to support economic analysis for project development.
  • Supports project management in process related development activities.
  • Oversees technical evaluations and submittals of discipline-specific project documents.
  • Effectively applies knowledge of safe-work procedures and practices as applicable in the Operate Phase.
  • Leads/develops process monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Develops white papers to support Process Engineering decisions.
  • Utilizes and updates documentation in the Engineering Knowledge Bank - Engineering Philosophies and Standards.
  • Serves as the Company representative during design phase at Contractor office(s).
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).


Qualifications

Education
  • Typically requires a 4 year degree in a relevant field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience
  • Typically requires 12 years of related experience.

  • Process Engineering - The design, optimization, analysis, and improvement of industrial processes to efficiently produce goods and services. It involves the application of scientific and engineering principles to create and manage systematic workflows, ensuring that raw materials are transformed into desired products while minimizing waste and maximizing resource utilization.
  • Process Optimization - Establish systems to discover critical processes and maximize these processes to achieve maximum efficiency in accordance with organization procedures.
  • Process Design - Developing effective business processes and workflows that are effective, scalable, and easy to replicate.
  • Troubleshooting - The systematic process of diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, or network issues to restore normal operation.
  • Root Cause Analysis - The process of discovering the root causes of problems in order to identify appropriate solutions.
  • Process Performance Monitoring - Monitoring and analyzing key performance indicators to assess the efficiency, effectiveness, and reliability of a process or system.
  • Process Simulation & Modeling - Using computer-based models and simulations to analyze and optimize process operations, predict performance under different conditions, and evaluate the impact of potential changes or improvements to the process.
  • Specifications Development - Understanding the context, stakeholders and requirements of a project, and developing measurable criteria by which projects can be evaluated.
  • Continuous Improvement - An ongoing effort to improve processes, systems, and practices by regularly assessing performance and implementing incremental changes.
  • Process Safety Management - Managing the safety of processes and operations that involve hazardous substances proactively through implementing preventive measures, conducting risk assessments, establishing safety procedures, providing training to personnel, and continuously monitoring and improving process safety performance.
