Job Summary:

Under general direction and guidance, supports, coordinates and/or performs activities that evaluate packaging components and package materials for Mary Kay Inc. products and technologies during new product development for market launch and/or continued product line maintenance. Conducts component package activities, such as analyzing packaging materials, conducting experimental package tests, defining artwork criteria and writing specifications. Performs efforts to ensure overall product/package integrity throughout the Mary Kay Inc. sourcing, manufacturing, distribution and consumer product use processes. Has an in depth understanding of packaging materials and package engineering. Communicates effectively with global coworkers, management, external suppliers and laboratory or consulting partners.

About the Role:

Responsibilities:
• Applies standard practices and techniques to qualify packaging material options for primary, secondary, tertiary level components used for cosmetics products and other items marketed by Mary Kay Inc. Works to support routine packaging needs for new product development and ongoing line maintenance of current products. Promotes efforts to ensure packaging components conform to specification, are manufacturable and capable for the Mary Kay Inc. global supply chain and user experience. Works in partnership to make recommendations/resolve problems of moderate complexity in direct project work.
• Analyzes component package options and performs functional test requirements to identify package selection for new product launches. Conducts or designs studies to collect data and assess the performance of packaging materials and components. Compiles data and writes technical reports to effectively analyze and interpret results. Works with general guidance to influence project decisions with communication of timely information and study results to other R&D or New Product Development partners.
• Works with some independence to navigate ambiguity within project work. Applies knowledge to anticipate potential issues and suggest options to observed/anticipated problems. Partners cross-functionally to resolve items of moderate complexity.
• Participates in activities and projects to support overall department/R&D goals, such as continuous improvement, sustainability, new technologies, cost savings, quality and safety. Collaborates with open diverse thinking and approaches while maintaining alignment to project and department goals.
• Works under general guidance on moderately complex specialized projects/initiatives. Makes continuous improvement suggestions and partners for implementation. These projects may support the advancement of innovative packaging, test methodologies, or other emerging packaging industry trends.
• This job requires on-site work at a Mary Kay facility.

Skills & Experience:

Education: Bachelor/University Degree

Education Focus: Packaging engineering or equivalent.

Experience: 3+ years

Field of Experience: Packaging engineering experience with a consumer goods company, or other applicable experience.

Additional Skills & Abilities:
• Must have working proficiency in technical writing and communication, including oral presentations and reports.
• Must be able to manage multiple projects with general guidance from supervisor.
• Must have an in-depth understanding of packaging materials and package engineering.
• Must have ability to apply standard scientific principles and make sound scientific judgments within scope of role.
