The Opportunity

As a Packaged Equipment Engineer, your role is to provide packaged equipment support and technical equipment expertise to projects. Strong candidates are expected to have a broad set of skills and knowledge encompassing packaged equipment systems such as: fired heaters, flares, incinerators, boilers, SCRs, cooling towers, air-cooled condensers, air compressors, nitrogen generation systems, or process treatment skids. General industries served are related to the Natural Gas, LNG, FLNG, Ammonia, Urea, Fertilizers, Gas Processing, Midstream, Sulfur, Hydrogen, Power Production, Data Center, and other general heavy industries. Strong candidates shall exhibit code knowledge and experience with process industry standards, such as API-521, API-537, API-560, API RP 936, HEI Standards, CTI Standards, NFPA standards, TEMA, API-660, API-661, etc. applicable to packaged equipment systems and heat exchangers, and shall be capable of simple and complex analyses related to the design, specification, and applications engineering tasks associated with this packaged equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, select, specify, and engineer packaged equipment suitable for design needs for reliable, cost-effective, and efficient operation.
  • Select and implement appropriate designs for package equipment
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select the most technically acceptable design solutions.
  • Utilize leading and current technologies in development of designs.
  • Prepare equipment cost estimating and manhours for FEED and Detailed Design phases.
  • Prepare packaged equipment data sheets and technical specifications for bid and purchase.
  • Review, interpret, and include client technical specifications in the bid & purchase specifications.
  • Perform bid clarifications / meetings with bidders and prepare technical bid evaluations/summaries for equipment.
  • Lead and coordinate meetings with internal disciplines, external consultants, clients, contractors, subcontractors, and vendors/fabricators.
  • Participate in client project meetings. Conduct meetings with packaged equipment team working on the projects
  • Assist junior engineers to develop their packaged and fired equipment skills.
  • Perform Pre-Inspection meetings, shop surveillance, attend inspections & testing on fired equipment in vendor's shop.
  • Participate in design & model reviews, Hazop reviews, constructability reviews, etc.
  • Perform vendor drawing reviews.
  • Develop construction subcontracts for packaged equipment
  • Participate in on-site start-up and commissioning work on an as-needed basis.
  • Travel expectations: Approximately 10% to 35% annually; variable; based on project construction support needs


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in LNG, Hydrogen, and gas processing projects.
  • Experience working in Ammonia, Urea, and Fertilizer plant projects.
  • Experience working in Hydrogen generation projects.
  • Experience working in Power projects.
  • Experience in selecting and working with all types of packaged equipment and auxiliaries, complex packaged equipment systems
  • Experience with ASME Code (Section I, Section VIII Divisions 1 & 2).
  • Experience with NFPA 85, 86, and 87 codes.
  • Experience with EPA emissions regulations and test methods.
  • Experience in reading detailed project drawings, blueprints, and technical interpretations.
  • Experience with fired equipment troubleshooting and small services engineering projects.
  • Experience with insulating refractory materials and specification of materials for various open flame applications
  • Experience in purchasing equipment to ASME STS-1; API 521, 537, 560, and other relevant fired equipment standards.
  • Experience with evaporative cooling towers (field erected and packaged)
  • Experience with associated CTI and HEI Standards for Cooling Towers
  • Experience with cooling tower performance testing (CTI-ATC-105)
  • Experience with process air compressors, instrument air compressors
  • Experience with Nitrogen Generation Systems
  • Experience with equipment inspection and general condition engineering assessment projects per API 573, 936, etc.
  • Experience in attending and performing engineered equipment shop inspections.
  • Experience in writing fired equipment ASME and API overlay specifications.
  • Experience in material and component selection for packaged equipment.
  • Experience with working on projects from early conceptual to detailed engineering and on to project start-up and operations support.
  • Experience in the role of Lead Equipment Engineer on larger projects.
  • Have mentoring skills and work with and encourage junior staff.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in handling multiple jobs/projects on a weekly basis.
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills; self-paced.


Having the following additional experience will have added advantage:
  • Experience in the role of Mechanical Lead Engineer on projects.
  • Experience in equipment installation, commissioning, & start-up support at site.
  • Experience working on offshore fixed platform and floating vessel projects or other general field related projects for the process industries.
  • Experience in workshare with other country offices globally.
  • Experience in heat exchanger design; competent in use of HTRI Software


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant industry experience as a minimum
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer in USA and/or Professional Engineering in Canada


Certifications

  • Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.

  • Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
