Job Summary and Description:
What You'll Do
  • Innovate & Solve Problems: Identify critical research areas and develop innovative solutions to address industry challenges in grid reliability, resilience, and modernization. Tackle highly specialized technical objectives where creative and imaginative thinking is required.
  • Project Leadership: Manage large, multi-faceted research projects, including budgets, timelines, and cross-functional teams. May also oversee small or medium projects, ensuring completion within schedule and budget.
  • Technical Expertise: Apply deep technical knowledge in overhead transmission line design, conductors, and related hardware. Utilize advanced design practices and modeling tools such as PLSCADD. Demonstrate full knowledge of related disciplines and develop technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build relationships with EPRI members, utilities, and international partners. Provide technical services and communication strategies and results to program members, potential members, and external stakeholders through presentations, reports, meetings, webcasts, workshops, and conferences.
  • Advance the Industry: Present research findings at conferences, author technical papers, and contribute to industry standards. Support proposal efforts and new promotional work. Develop research or service opportunities of value to EPRI members.
  • Mentorship & Collaboration: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff. Organize interdepartmental activities and ensure parallel work across EPRI programs is informed.
  • Ability to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, including Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI-powered tools, to improve efficiency, support problem-solving, and enhance overall work performance.

What You Bring
  • Proficiency in PLSCADD and other modeling tools.
  • 7+ years of experience in R&D, focusing on overhead transmission line design, conductors, and related hardware.
  • Proven track record in managing and delivering complex projects.
  • Deep technical expertise in transmission line components, emergency restoration, and advanced design practices.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and writing skills.
  • Creative problem-solving and a passion for innovation.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to work independently on technical activities without direct supervision.
  • Experience interfacing with national and international technical networks (manufacturers, consultants, academia, research organizations, and industry conferences and conventions).

Bachelor's Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required.

The salary range for this position is $115,000 USD to $139,000 USD annually.

This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI's standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
