What We Are Looking For

The Natural Gas Marketing team is looking to add an experienced Originator to the team. An ideal candidate would have both origination and trading experience; however both are not required. The Originator will be responsible for new growth business development activities through existing and new customer relationships. This position will be charged with creating new deal flow and gross margin for KM Gas Marketing.

What You Will Do

  • Develop internal and external relationships to create new value for Kinder Morgan through structured transactions including term supply, transportation and storage
  • Find, generate, and close physical gas transactions accretive to the portfolio
  • Determine the best risk/reward based on size and scope of the enterprise, not simply being everything to all customers
  • Assist in developing economic analysis and supporting materials used by senior management for deal approvals, strategy discussions, and internal reporting
  • Commercial deal review of transactions and fostering transactions through the internal process to ensure organizational support and buy in
  • Participate in business plan and strategy for the Gas Marketing team in concert with various other desks and Senior Leadership
  • Review past deals to understand best practices and propose process changes as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

What You Need

Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • Equivalent years of experience may be considered in lieu of degree

Required Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in natural gas with commercial, financial evaluation and deal structuring experience
  • Demonstrated experience in generating positive Gross Margin
  • Experience working with various internal departments
  • Experience with NAESB's and other commercial contracts
  • Proven track record of innovation, creativity and success in closing customer business
  • In-depth knowledge of the US natural gas market infrastructure and operations
  • Current or previous experience natural gas trading or originating in US markets
  • Ability to perform in a high-pressure environment
  • Strong bias for action and attention to detail
  • Ability to lead peers, and develop others
  • Strong knowledge of deal structuring and hedging
  • Possess the ability to excel under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, rapidly process information and make decisions based on changing market dynamics
  • Strong networking, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of risk management
  • Understanding of legal and compliance information
  • Extensive working knowledge of Excel

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior physical trading experience a plus
  • Expertise in gas operations, trading and scheduling

Working Conditions:
  • Extended work hours in cases of deadlines or major presentations
  • Routinely required to work unsupervised
  • Travel as needed to develop relationships with customers
  • Ability to work in an open trade floor environment
