Your Job We are looking for an Optical Process Engineer to monitor, evaluate, and improve optical performance and manufacturability of our WSS products throughout their life cycle. In the development phase, he/she must collaborate with our WSS Design team to drive root-cause investigations of the product performance issues and support developing and improving WSS assembly processes. He/she will be responsible for improving production efficiency and reducing manufacturing cost in the NPI and scale-up phases. He/she must also develop statistical process control tools to monitor performance of the products in their Manufacturing phases and lead corrective action implementations for high yield manufacturing.
What You Will Do - Responsible for developing and improving manual and automated assembly and test processes such as optical alignment and bonding
- Facilitate the implementation of engineering changes and process improvements throughout product life cycle
- Review existing processes and enhance them to improve yield, cycle time and quality
- Create assembly instructions, process documentation, preventative maintenance plans, and control plans
- Train, certify, and audit technicians and operators to process documentation
- Monitor process performance using tools such as statistical process control (SPC)
- Responsible for resolving technical issues related to optical assembly processes in the design phase working with optical design and reliability teams
- Support production line moves and/or new product introduction by coordinating quality, materials, tools, production line layouts, and process development
- Support year over year cycle time reductions
- Develop, create and manage Bill of Material (BOM) changes and support ongoing maintenance and accuracy in cooperation with other functions
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications) - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering discipline
- Experience with optical alignment and coupling, beam propagation rules and/or polarization optics.
- Experience manufacturing of optical component/sub-system manufacturing or a related components.
- Experience with optical performance parameters such as: Bandwidth, IL, PDL, PMD, CD, Ripple or specification sensitivity and interdependencies
- Experience with a variety of optical test and measurement equipment such as: OSAs, polarization controllers, interferometers, TLS and/or ASE.
- Strong background in statistical analysis techniques and writing scripts for complex data analysis is highly desirable.
What Will Put You Ahead - Master's or PhD highly desired
- Experience in Fiber Optics industry
- Experience with DFM/DFT
- DWDM experience
- Six Sigma
For this role, we anticipate paying $150,000 - $190,000 per year. This role is eligible for variable pay, issued as a monetary bonus or in another form.
