Tobe a successful ophthalmologist, you should be willing to maintainup-to-date knowledge of the diseases, functions, and anatomy of theeye. You should be meticulous, analytical, and have very steady hands.
Ophthalmologist Responsibilities:- Providingroutine care such as vision testing and prescribing glasses andcontact lenses.
- Performingcorrective surgeries, such as repairing injuries and corneas, andremoving cataracts.
- Performingadvanced surgical procedures, such as keyhole or laser surgery.
- Diagnosing andtreating eye diseases and injuries.
- Managingemergency eye clinics, outpatient clinics, or other specialist eye clinics.
- Treatingmedical disorders that affect the vision through a holistic approach.
- Using therapeutic procedures andperforming biopsies.
Requirements- A medicaldegree in ophthalmology.
- Successfulcompletion of an internship and residency in ophthalmology.
- A state licenseto practice ophthalmology.
- Expert workingknowledge of the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye.
- Strong physicsand math skills, and excellent medical knowledge.
- Goodadministrative and managerial skills.
- Good hand-eye coordination.
