Job Summary
The Operations Support Manager is responsible for tactically managing the alignment of customer demand, supplier commitments, procurement execution, and inventory across Avnet Integrated Solutions programs. The role serves as a key operational link between Demand Planning, Buyers, suppliers, internal cross-functional teams, and customers to ensure supply commitments remain aligned with customer requirements. The individual will proactively identify and resolve demand/supply gaps, drive supplier commits, manage planning and purchasing exceptions, and support inventory optimization. The role will have direct responsibility for owning and maintaining the build plan, ensuring that customer requirements, component/material availability, purchase order coverage, supplier commitments, and build requirements remain synchronized.
Principal Responsibilities
1. Demand and Supply Linearity
- Tactically manage alignment between customer demand, supplier commits, purchase orders, and required delivery/build dates.
- Maintain visibility to gaps between customer requirements and supplier commitments and drive timely resolution of shortages or misalignment.
- Monitor changes in demand and supply and identify potential shortages, excess inventory, or schedule risk before they impact the customer.
- Coordinate required actions across Buyers, Demand Planners, supplier contacts, and other internal stakeholders.
2. Customer Build Plan Ownership
- Own and maintain the customer build plan as the operational source for near-term execution.
- Ensure build requirements are aligned with current customer demand, available inventory, open purchase orders, and supplier commitments.
- Identify material constraints that could impact planned builds and drive recovery actions with Buyers, Demand Planning, supplier, and other stakeholders.
- Track shortages and supply gaps through resolution and escalate material risks when required.
- Ensure changes in customer requirements or supplier commits are reflected promptly in the build plan.
3. Supplier Commit Management
- Actively manage supplier commitments against customer requirements.
- Follow up on missing, late, or insufficient supplier commits and drive for improved delivery dates when required.
- Identify commit dates that no longer support customer requirements and coordinate appropriate escalation and recovery actions.
- Maintain clear visibility to supplier constraints and communicate material risks to the appropriate internal teams.
4. Buyer / Purchase Order Execution Support
- Partner with Buyers to ensure purchase orders are placed in alignment with validated demand and required lead times.
- Monitor open POs for accuracy and continued relevance to customer requirements.
- Work with Buyers to resolve aged or obsolete purchase orders and clean up PO lines that are no longer valid.
- Drive timely execution of push, pull, cancellation, quantity, and date-change exceptions.
- Identify situations where demand exists but PO coverage is missing or insufficient and work with the Buyer to close the gap.
- Validate that purchasing actions remain synchronized with customer demand and supplier commitments.
5. Demand Planning & MRP Exception Management
- Partner closely with Demand Planners to validate demand signals and identify material changes affecting supply requirements.
- Review MRP exceptions and planning recommendations routinely to identify required procurement or planning actions.
- Work with Demand Planning and Buyers to address exception messages such as expedite/pull-in, push-out, cancel, or new order requirements.
- Challenge discrepancies between forecast/demand signals, PO coverage, supplier commits, inventory, and actual customer requirements.
- Support inventory optimization by balancing service requirements against the risk of excess and obsolete inventory.
6. Inventory & Shortage Management
- Monitor inventory positions against current and future customer requirements.
- Identify potential excess, shortage, or stranded inventory resulting from demand changes.
- Coordinate mitigation actions such as PO pushouts, cancellations, supplier expedites, or demand realignment.
- Maintain visibility of critical shortages and ensure owners and recovery actions are clearly identified.
- Escalate significant supply risks that cannot be resolved through normal tactical execution.
7. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Serve as a central tactical coordination point across Demand Planning, Procurement, Operations, Program Management, suppliers, and customer-facing teams.
- Participate in regular demand/supply and execution reviews and provide concise status on shortages, supplier commits, build-plan risks, and required actions.
- Coordinate directly with supplier and customer stakeholders, where appropriate, to resolve execution issues and maintain alignment.
- Ensure actions have clear ownership and are driven to closure.
Core Accountability
Ensure customer demand, supplier commitments, purchase orders, inventory, and build requirements remain synchronized, while proactively driving exceptions to closure before they create a customer delivery or inventory issue.
Own the customer build plan and drive cross-functional execution to ensure demand, material availability, supplier commits, purchasing actions, and build requirements remain aligned.
