Specialty Building Products is looking for an Operations Project Manager to lead complex operations projects from the early planning stage through launch, stable operations, and final closeout. Typical projects include combining several facilities into one location, opening or moving a distribution center, integrating an acquisition, rolling out a major operating system, or making a large change to the distribution network or available capacity. This role organizes the full project, coordinates all departments involved, protects employee safety and customer service, and makes sure the project delivers the approved operating and financial results. After one project is complete, the manager moves to the next major company project.
Responsibilities:
Lead major projects from initial planning through launch, stable operations, and final closeout.
Build and maintain the full project plan, including deadlines, task connections, highest-priority activities, approval points, resource needs, and backup plans.
Set up and maintain the project-management process, including leadership meetings, department work plans, action lists, risk and issue tracking, and a clear process for raising problems.
Coordinate all departments involved in the project, which may include Operations, Sales, Customer Service, Transportation, Inventory, Finance, HR, IT, Real Estate, Facilities, Safety, Legal, Purchasing, and Communications.
Work with department leaders to define requirements for the facility, processes, equipment, technology, staffing, inventory, transportation, and customer transition.
Manage site-preparation work, including layout, racking, equipment, product flow, staffing, training, system access, inventory moves, and the final transition plan.
Lead readiness reviews and decisions on whether the project is ready to proceed.
Manage the approved work, schedule, budget, expected results, risks, assumptions, and requested changes.
Provide clear updates to senior leaders on project status, decisions needed, upcoming deadlines, and risks to safety, service, employees, cost, or timing.
Work with HR and operations leaders to coordinate employee communications, staffing changes, training, and other employee-related plans.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, Supply Chain, Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
Seven or more years of increasing responsibility in project management, operations, engineering, supply chain, or major facility-change work.
Proven success leading at least one complex project involving several departments, locations, vendors, or operating teams.
Ability to build and manage a complete project plan with connected tasks, deadlines, resource needs, risks, and financial tracking.
Strong communication, meeting leadership, negotiation, and decision-support skills with senior leaders.
Ability to travel extensively and spend sustained periods at the assigned project location during critical phases.
Preferred Qualifications / Skills:
Agile project experience, Lean Six Sigma, or another project-management certification.
Experience leading facility consolidations, relocations, new-site openings, acquisition integrations, or major system rollouts.
Experience in distribution, manufacturing, transportation, building materials, or multi-site branch operations.
Experience managing capital projects, outside vendors, construction schedules, equipment installation, or material-handling systems.
Working knowledge of operations finance, business cases, capital budgets, and confirming whether expected results were achieved.
