Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Boston, MA within the Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL) animal facilities. In this role you will oversee and manage all aspects of the (CRADL) facilities, staff, and partner with senior management to achieve short- and long-term goals for the CRADL organization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages and ensures the daily husbandry and support assignments meet organizational standards & client expectations.
  • Personnel management activities such as: mentorship, personnel actions, training & development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions, delivering annual performance and salary reviews. In coordination with Human Resources representative, conduct interviews, assist in recruitment efforts, investigate personnel problems, and respond to employees in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with clients, participate in reoccurring client meetings. Serve to support key clients and assist in driving sales by supporting prospective client through presenting site capabilities or providing tours as needed.
  • Provide support to technicians in the absence of the supervisor for the following tasks as needed.
  • Assist with organizational goal setting and monitor high-level project deliverables.
  • Assist in Program Description review and editing. Lead and participate in all AAALAC accreditation activities for the site and the organization, ensuring site, client and employee readiness.
  • Oversee site capital and expense budgets.
  • Assist management with site forecasting, budget planning, client services and financial impact of client plans.
  • Manages lists of site and equipment needs/improvements for all CRADL sites to assist in budget management.
  • Collaborating with internal and external Veterinarians on monitoring animal welfare trends, reducing instances, and ensuring standards of welfare excellence.
  • Ensure site is utilizing digital tools and review data generated for client invoices.
  • Oversee facility maintenance/repairs and preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Respond or direct after-hours emergencies / requests as necessary to ensure smooth facility operations and client satisfaction.
  • Generate and submit internal operational reports in the required formats and timeframes as required to ensure compliance and business performance. Report to the Manager or designee any operations related issues.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of organizational and site specific standard operating procedures (SOP's), in compliance with all state, federal and industry requirements.
  • Work with other CRADL site peers to troubleshoot operational efforts for issue resolution and participate in providing innovative solutions to enhance operations.
  • Partner with the veterinary science team to ensure compliance with biosecurity policies and
    procedures, IACUC required training and competency, IACUC non-compliance and/or animal welfare concerns.
  • Lead and participate in all IACUC semi-annual activities including being responsible for follow-up actions for the site and the organization.
  • Lead all Internal & client audit activities for the site and the organization.
  • Act as subject matter expert in all animal facility operations.
  • Conduct and participate in Train the trainer sessions.
  • Ensure required training to clients is completed to operate in compliance with local regulations and CRL policies while tenants in CRL space.
  • Oversee consistent practice of site and personnel safety policies and procedures and manage
    hazardous work in partnership with EH&S Specialists.


Job Qualifications

The following are minimum requirements related to the Operations Manager position.

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in animal or laboratory science, business, or
    related discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum eight (8) years in a laboratory animal facility of which five (5) years is
    management or supervisory experience.
  • Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level
    (LATG) and/or Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) preferred.

The pay range for this position is $110k to $120k USD annually. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
