DescriptionPosition Title: Open Rank Director of Clinical and Translational Research at the Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders (WACBD)
The Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders (WACBD) and Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Oncology invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor (without tenure due to funding) in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at the University of Washington, with an anticipated start date of February 1, 2027. Specific rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications as generally described in UW's Faculty Code Section 24-34. Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and Associate and full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
This position will be based at the Washington Center for Bleeding Disorders (WACBD), an independent non-profit organization, federally funded Hemophilia Treatment Center, and University of Washington-affiliated clinical practice site in Seattle. The selected candidate will serve as the Director of Clinical and Translational Research at WACBD and will lead the continued growth and strategic development of the Center's clinical and translational research program in hemostasis.
Key responsibilities will include: (1) providing oversight of the WACBD research enterprise, including supervision of the Director of Research Administration, research coordinators, and regulatory and compliance activities; (2) developing, selecting, and conducting high-quality clinical research studies, including investigator-initiated projects supported by federal, foundation, or industry funding, as well as industry-sponsored trials; (3) ensuring seamless integration of research activities into clinical care to enhance patient outcomes and advance evidence-based practice; (4) fostering collaborations with basic, translational, and clinical scientists to accelerate scientific discovery and innovation in hemostasis; and (5) serving as a member of the WACBD executive leadership team to help shape the organization's strategic vision and future growth.
The successful candidate will also be expected to strengthen and expand collaborative research partnerships with investigators and institutions throughout Seattle and the Pacific Northwest, including those with shared interests in hemostasis, thrombosis, vascular biology, hematology, and related disciplines. These collaborations may include joint clinical and translational research initiatives, multi-center studies, and opportunities to leverage the region's strong biomedical research ecosystem.
In addition, the selected candidate may contribute to clinical care and participate in scholarly, educational, and mentoring activities that support comprehensive care and improve health outcomes for adults and children with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders throughout Washington State.
University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will involve oversight of advanced practice providers and fellows during inpatient and outpatient rotations, and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.
The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professor range: $25,834 - $27,917 per month ($310,008 - $335,004 annually), Associate Professor range: $28,334 - $32,500 per month ($340,008 - $390,000 annually), Professor range: $33,334 - $37,917 per month ($400,008 - $455,004 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Anticipated start date: March 1, 2027.
QualificationsRequirements include MD or DO (or foreign equivalent), completion of a fellowship in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) eligible or certified in Medical Oncology or Hematology (or foreign equivalent), and must be eligible for medical licensure in state of Washington. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
