Job Summary:

Our Women's Health Clinical Service Line works to provide world class care, outcomes and experiences for the combined services of mothers, babies and families. Our care services include perinatology, obstetrical care, newborn care, neonatology, fetal care, gynecology, minimally invasive surgery, urogynecology and perinatal mental health. Our OB/GYN Hospitalist provide in-house obstetrical coverage of the labor and delivery unit, antepartum and postpartum units, and triage areas.

Key Position Details:

Our OB/GYN Hospitalists provide expert, in-house obstetrical coverage across our premier Mother Baby Centers at Abbott Northwestern and United Hospital and various locations. Bring your expertise and compassion to a team that’s redefining maternal care.

Practice Details:

  • Seven labor and delivery locations; 12,300 deliveries/year; 30 clinics; 50+ OBGYNs; 21+ OB hospitalists; 18+ Clinical Nurse Midwives, 15 Maternal Fetal Medicine specialists.

  • Quaternary hospital: Abbott Northwestern, Lv IV NICU; Tertiary hospitals - Mercy and United with level III NICUs, and 6 regional hospitals

  • Excellian, our EMR, is a software product from Epic and is considered one of the most comprehensive systems in the nation.

Job Description:

  • Provides in-house obstetrical coverage of the labor and delivery unit, antepartum and postpartum units, and triage area.

  • Provides services including but not limited to emergency cesarean sections, spontaneous vaginal or operative vaginal births, postpartum tubal ligations, and rounding on antepartum, laboring and postpartum patients.

  • Provides overall care management of patients without an assigned physician, and those requiring emergency obstetric care.

  • Provides backup support and surgical assistance to staff Obstetricians as needed.

  • Practices in a thoughtful manner including consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy and legal responsibilities.

  • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team approach to case management.

  • Cover GYN concerns out of the Emergency Department and basic gynecologic surgery skills are required (D&C and laparoscopy)

  • Full-time status at United Hospital and opportunity to pick up at other locations.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved medical program
  • Completion of an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited Residency training program in OB/GYN


Licenses/Certifications

  • Active, non-restricted medical license in MN required upon hire

  • Must meet at least ONE of the requirements below:
        020 Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
        020 Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
        020 Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in OB/GYN upon hire required
  • Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate upon hire required
  • Prescription Monitoring Program upon hire required
  • National Provider Identifier upon hire required
  • Ability to meet criteria/qualifications for credentialing and hospital privileges.

Physical Demands

Pay Range

Pay Range: $397,152 to $397,152 per year

The pay described reflects the starting base pay range, assuming a full-time FTE. Your starting rate will depend on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, your experience, education, and the union agreement (if applicable).
