Description:

Position Purpose:

At Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, the Nurse Senior – Educator, also known as the Nursing Professional Development Specialist, advances nursing excellence through evidence-based education and professional development. This role empowers nurses to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care by fostering lifelong learning and supporting clinical competency across Critical Care service lines, primarily the Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit (MSICU), Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CICU), ECMO Program, Intermediate Care, and Trauma patient populations.

What You Will Do:

  • Design, implement, and evaluate educational programs that promote clinical competency, orientation, continuing education, and specialty certification readiness across Critical Care service lines

  • Collaborate with nursing leadership and interdisciplinary teams to assess learning needs, address practice gaps, and develop strategies that support excellence in patient care.

  • Lead competency validation and simulation-based learning for high-acuity clinical situations, including critical care, trauma, resuscitation, and emergency response scenarios.

  • Serve as a mentor, educator, and clinical resource, advancing evidence-based practice, quality improvement initiatives, and adherence to critical care, trauma, and ECMO program standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:

  • Current and valid Connecticut RN license.

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program. A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) is a strong preference; near requirement. BSN candidates will only be considered if they are actively pursuing an MSN or higher degree.

  • Minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience in Critical Care nursing, including experience in Intensive Care, Cardiovascular Intensive Care, Surgical Intensive Care, Trauma Intensive Care, or other high-acuity Intermediate Care Unit settings.

Preferred:

  • Experience in staff education or professional development (strong preference; nearly required).

  • Current BLS certification and advanced specialty certifications (ACLS, etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver educational programs for nursing staff. Experience designing and facilitating simulation-based education for critical care and emergency response scenarios.

  • Familiarity with ECMO program standards, competency requirements, and best practices. Experience supporting Trauma Center standards, performance improvement activities, or trauma-focused education

Position Highlights:

  • Full-Time: 40 hours/week

  • This is a salaried position with a range of: $83,304 to $133,328
