Full Job Description
Position Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner functions under the direction of the Medical Director or his/her designee in the Urgent Care Department. The Advance Practice Nurse is a self-directed nurse practitioner with advanced knowledge, skill and competence in a defined area of nursing practice. The individual functions as an educator, consultant, and coordinator of care and is a primary provider of care for a select group of patients.

The ANP is responsible to a designated physician for supervision of patient case management/prescription writing.

Primary Responsibilities:

1.Clinical Practice
• Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skill necessary to independently provide care to clients within specialty area and across the health care continuum.
• Complete detailed medical history, record current illness or injury, conduct a physical examination, order and perform appropriate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
• Makes appropriate internal/external referrals, and effectively utilizes available community resources.
• Assist clients and their families.
• Assess results of tests and make appropriate clinical judgments.
• Assess physical and psychosocial health and illness status of patient.
• Serve as a clinical resource to staff across the health care continuum for a given specialty area.
• Deliver care in a manner that preserves and protects client autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights.
• Document pertinent client and family data in the medical record per department standards.
• Communicate and collaborate effectively within and across disciplines.

2. Quality Improvement and Research
• Validate that clinical practice meets established standards through
• participation in department and unit based quality improvement projects.
• Utilize quality improvement data and research findings to enhance client care.

3. Educator
• Provide client and family teaching focused on current treatment and procedures as well as health promotion and illness/injury prevention.
• Educate nursing staff, other disciplines, and/or community agencies when necessary to effect optimal client care.
• Contribute to the education of nursing students with primary focus on role and/or area of specialization.
• In collaboration with nursing leadership, participate in the development of clinical competencies and practice standards related to the care of specialty client population.

4. Professional Development
• Participate in professional, community, or governmental organizations that function to advance the nursing profession and/or improve health care delivery to consumers.
• Identify own learning needs and assume responsibility for maintaining current knowledge and competency in clinical practice specialty.
• Complete the annual mandatory trainings, eg. Safety review, Infection Control standards.
• Participate as a committee member/chairperson when requested.
• Maintains and provides upon request required records for the purposes of credentialing and privileging with hospitals and/or insurances.
• Attends required meetings.

Requirements

Qualifications & Skills:

Nurse Practitioner: Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN). Must be a currently licensed registered nurse in the state of Massachusetts, have Nurse Practitioner authorization for prescriptive authority, and have successfully completed boards. Previous NP experience required. Spanish & Haitian Creole preferred.

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods (at least 50% of the time)
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds and load onto shelves
• Visual acuity sufficient for frequent reading and computer use

Salary Description

$60.10- $96.75/HR
