What will your day look like?

As a Nurse Manager at Horizon, you will...
  • Instruct nursing staff on the importance of completing admission and nursing assessments, and providing health teaching to our residential population.
  • Provide education and resources to nursing staff to assist them in health teaching and conducting educational groups to patients.
  • Provide therapeutic environment and foster team approach with multidisciplinary staff. Organize in-services, trainings, and conduct monthly nursing meetings. Promote overall growth of organization through process changes to improve organizational performance.
  • Educate nursing staff on the importance of nursing process and assessment, and reinforce the importance of accurate documentation. Assist nursing staff in identifying proper medication administration technique and nursing practice. Review protocol and report to physicians and counselors any noted changes in patients' behavior and health.
  • Provide clinical oversight, education, and staff development for nursing team. Work collaboratively with the Clinical and Medical Operations teams and identify goals, lifestyle and behavior modifications, and appropriate nursing interventions for each patient. Assist nursing staff in review and care coordination for patients.
  • Assist Director of Nursing with grant work and program expansion
  • Lead by example and work to develop and maintain professional interpersonal relationships with the members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, and families.
  • Attend and participates in all staff meetings and mandatory in-services. Provide appropriate ideas and suggestions to improve process or operations of the facility.
  • Provide nursing staff education for proficiency and accuracy in the administration of all ordered medications, medication protocols, documentation in the MAR and safe medication administration practices. Review the proper protocol for administration of medications with nurses and treatment assistants to assure accurate delivery of medication.
  • Provide staff education and develop policy and procedure for assisting Medical/Psychiatric providers with medication management, psychiatric visits, and patient assessment and testing.
  • Demonstrate proficiency with computer skills and provide accurate documentation for medical records/EMR/MAR. Nursing Supervisor will ensure nursing staff is completing documentation per agency requirements. Will consult with CQI or billing as needed.
  • Provide nursing staff education on the importance of following physician/provider orders and recommendations for medical treatment of patients, f/u on labs and reporting of any abnormalities to Medical Provider.
  • Complete incident reports as needed and work with nursing staff to ensure best practices for patients considering safety in all interactions. Nursing Supervisor will f/u on any safety issues, accidents, or sentinel events.
  • Reinforce for nursing staff that the Nursing Supervisor needs to be informed of all medication errors, sentinel events, and error is nursing process.
  • Nursing Supervisor will receive calls regarding potential patient crisis, urgent medical issues, and incidents.
  • Provide individual supervision to all nursing staff either weekly or every other week based on nursing performance. Nursing Supervisor will foster professional growth and development for nursing staff and encourage participation in educational activities.
  • Ensure that all narcotics counts are completed. Will ensure that destruction and paperwork for unused narcotics is done following DEA and DOH regulations.
  • Provide annual performance reviews for nursing staff. Nursing Supervisor will assess for nursing skill deficits and will provide on-going corrective education and documentation in supervision notes.
  • Seek out educational opportunities for personal professional growth and development.
  • Complete schedules for nursing staff daily assignments and plan coverage as needed.
  • Meet weekly or every other week as clinically indicated with Director of Nursing for supervision.
  • Ensure the provision of education, risk reduction, counseling and referral services to all patients regarding HIV and AIDS, tuberculosis, hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases and other communicable diseases

  • Valid New York State Registered Professional Nurse License along with an Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited university - required.
  • 5-10 years of clinical experience as a RN - required.
  • 1-2 years of related leadership experience required
  • NYS - RN, Certificate of CPR/AED Training and First Aid. Prefer candidate with Board Certification in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (BC), and Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN)

Location:

This position is located at 291 Elm St, Buffalo NY.

Hours:

This is a full-time position with a schedule of Sunday - Wednesday 8:00am - 6:30pm. You must be willing to be flexible with hours to accommodate needs.

Compensation:

Horizon is consistently evaluating our compensation and benefit packages to ensure we remain competitive. The range of pay for this position is $46.00 - $51.00. Starting pay may be impacted based on experience and education. Compensation adjustments are evaluated annually.

Physical demands associated with this position include:
  • Stationary posture with frequent standing/sitting alternation
  • Mobility between nearby worksites and within facilities
  • Mobility required involving repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements
  • Lifting objects up to 20 pounds
