Summary:

The NP/PA, Surgical (Cardiology - Inpatient) functions in a collaborative practice with physician(s) in the inpatient setting. Autonomously performs patient assessment, diagnosis, and intervention according to approved protocols. Develops and maintains own volume of patients under the supervision of a physician. Provides practice/clinic/call coverage and may round for physician(s) during periods of absence. Prescribes a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness needs, up to and including hospital rounding/consultation, assisting in surgery if appropriate and prescriptive authority.

Schedule:

10 hour shifts on a rotating schedule

Call is 1 weekend per month

Cardiology experience as an advanced practice provider (NP or PA) is highly preferred, however cardiology experience as a Registered Nurse will also be considered.

Education and Experience

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses

Master's Degree in Nursing as Advanced Practice Registered Nurse and minimum 1 year of pediatric nursing experience or related specialized area strongly preferred.

Physician Assistants

Master's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies and minimum 1 year of experience in related specialized area strongly preferred.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification

Advanced Practice Registered Nurses
  • Current Texas professional registered nurse license
  • Current Texas professional advanced practice registered nurse license
  • Certified as an RNFA preferred
  • Certified as a Family or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) is required.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Pediatric nurse practitioner acute care certification required when assigned to Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery and Pediatric Surgery/Trauma


Physician Assistants
  • Current Texas professional physician assistant license.
  • Certified as a PA-C
  • Current Basic Life Support (CPR) required.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required when assigned to Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery
